i've been looking into german universities to try to decide where to go in october for my year abroad in my degree. i have pretty much free rein of anywhere in germany, austria or switzerland (well, technically switzerland, but practically, swiss german is a bit of a turn-off). i have literally NO idea which city to pick. i fell i love with vienna when i lived there but i sort of feel it would be advantagous to choose somewhere new. the problem is, ironically, although i've studied german for eight years, i haven't really been there much. i liked both hamburg and frankfurt when i visited friends there, and i liked the look of berlin when i drove through on the way to poland, but there are so many other places i'd like to see. munich would be cool, and cologne and dusseldorf are well-situated for visiting france, luxembourg, the netherlands and belgium (not that i actually feel the need to ever set foot in belgium again - dad lived there for a couple of years and it's dull dull dull!)

on the university websites i've seen, apparently anyone who wants to study in germany has to take a german proficiency test called TestDAF before they can be accepted. should find out if i need to do that. it's £85 and i need to travel to london or oxford to take it. maybe berlin would be best as i'm so in love with london, and maybe it's the capital city vibe thing...

the more i think about it, the more i'm looking forward to going, i've really missed speaking german on a daily basis... though at the moment the looking-forwardness is pretty much masked by the scared-shitlessness thing...

aaargh! has anyone been anywhere cool in germany that they'd recommend? has anyone lived there? PLEASE comment and help me!!
