So what's going on with you guys? Not much really here. Pitcher and Catchers are getting all MRI'd up. Also MLB has now gone under a
few new rule changes. Here's
some of the said changes.
Games suspended with the score tied in the bottom of the fifth inning or later had previously been declared a tie game, to be replayed in its entirety, though player statistics from the tie were counted.
That rule was changed so that a tied regulation game that is stopped will be resumed before the next scheduled game between the same two clubs on the same grounds.
If no more games remain scheduled between the teams at the original club's home park, the game would be resumed at the visitor's park.
Ahh yes, I call this Minnesota Golden Gophers Rule. In 2004, the Twins and Indians were tied and the game was suspended not because of rain but because of some arena football team. They resumed it only because of playoff implications(this was like second to last gam eof the season or something like that). Now, this will always happen with a game. Which I think it alright.
Fielders will not be allowed to step into a dugout to catch a foul ball. They will be allowed to reach in but must have at least one foot on or over the playing surface.
Should they fall into either a dugout or into the stands after making a legal catch, all baserunners will be allowed to advance one base.
Aww that's no fun. This is the Mike Lowell Rule. Basically Lowell made a catch like this, Jeter made one like this(well his was more of catching it in fair territory then crashing into the seats), Pokey Reese did. And now if they do it these days, players move up a base. You don't realize how bad that is gonna suck in late inning games. But I must wonder, if someone like say, JD Drew makes robs someone of a HR with 1 out and there's a guy on third and it's an away game, but somehow Drew falls into teh stands, does this mean that they lose because of this rule? I think so. And that, my friends, sucks.
Pitchers found to apply a foreign substance onto the ball will face immediate ejection and an automatic suspension. Previously an umpire would declare a pitch a ball, warn the pitcher and announce the violation.
The new punishment brings the rule more in line with the automatic 10-game suspension levied on any player found to have defaced the ball by rubbing it with soil, rosin, sandpaper or other such foreign substance.
I'd totally make a Gambler joke here, but we know this is the Kenny Rogers Rule. Sounds fair enough, but then again, I must ask: Is cabbage still allowed to be worn in the hat or something like that? Hopefully so. Because I'd laugh to see someone with cabbage in their hat.
Conversely, an automatic strike will be assessed each time a batter violates the rule requiring they keep one foot in the batter's box throughout his at-bat, except for certain game-play conditions -- during which he is still not allowed to leave the dirt area surrounding the plate.
Fair enough. Dunno whose rule this would be. I'll let you folks decide. :P
The allotment for delivering the ball with no one on base has been reduced, from 20 seconds to 12. The price for each violation is a ball.
Seriously, so many players do more than 20 seconds. I swear whenever I watch Bartolo Colon on the mound, he takes like a minute before he throws the goddamn ball. Seriously. Erik Bedard is pretty bad too. I
A batter running to first base also will be allowed to exit the 3-foot lane in foul territory "for the sole purpose of touching first base," and a batter will lose the ability to run to first on a dropped third strike if he leaves the dirt circle around home plate unless he does so while trying to reach first base.
Previously, a player could run to first until he reached the dugout or his defensive position.
That sound you just heard is the 2005 Angels twitching violently and screaming in angst, wishign this rule was in place back then
Another change is, a batter who hits an apparent game-ending home run with less than two outs would be allowed to circle the bases if a runner ahead of him doesn't continue to home plate, thinking the game is over. If there are two outs when the play begins, however, the runner who abandons trying for home plate would be the third out and the home run would not count.
AKA: No Robin Ventura Shenanigans like back in 2000. Stupid Todd Pratt is such a moran
Another change allows pitchers to wear a multicolored glove if the umpire determines it isn't distracting. And a pitcher in the stretch position instead of a windup with no runners on base no longer will have to come to a complete stop.
That being said, BRING ON THE CAMO GLOVES! :)
