So we just had a little Internet catastrophe but we are online, so I am now writing. Well before I start, no wait I have already started, anyway at the beginning of this post I would just like to give a very big happy birthday to the most brilliant man live. That of course is Joss Whedon, the (brilliant) brains behind Buffy, Firefly, Angel, Serenity, etc. He has always been the meaning of life, the universe and everything but now his age confirms it. So I am wishing a very happy 42nd birthday to Joss Whedon.
Okay so that now that I have gotten the obsessive fangirl babbling out of the way I can get on to the stuff that happened with the family. But before I do that I need to express my bubbling excitement, TOMORROW I AM GOING TO BE IN MINNEAPOLIS. Okay now that that is out of the way as well, here is what went down during my day.
The first thing we did was eat at the continental breakfast. Even though it looked very similar to the one that we had ate at a few days ago it was not in a “Great Room” (for those who have short term memory loss, or have not been following my blog; one of the continental breakfast’s we ate at a few days ago was identical to the one I ate at today except for the one we had a few days ago had a sign next to the door that said ‘great room’).
After breakfast and packing and so forth, we were on our way to the next stop. So we drove for quite a long time. At about three or so we decided to make a stop and get some lunch. The restaurant we went to was Cracker Barrel, because it is one of Mommy’s favorite restaurants and there are barely any of them down in California. So every time we travel, we tend to end up eating there.
The food was very tasty. I got three side dishes that I had to carefully choose due to the fact that some of them were cooked with meat. I got apples, biscuits, carrots and a baked potato. It might be pretty starchy but it was also very good. Afterwards I was allowed to purchase some amazingly tasty maple syrup candy. In part why I was allowed to buy it was that the M&M’s that I had gotten at Vegas had been destroyed before I got to eat a single one.
After another very long drive we settled down in a city called Ames, Iowa. We were staying at a hotel that supposedly had two rooms, one with a pull out sofa bed and the other with a king sized bed but when got there, there was only one room. In the one room was only a King sized bed. So we called up the office and told them so they brought up a mattress even though there really wasn’t any room to put it. On top of that our Internet was not working so we had four people searching through their laptop trying to get connected.
After a very long time of franticly trying to get stuff in order we were all annoyed and a bit crabby.
We decided that we should probably get some food considering it was getting pretty late and we were all very hungry. Last time we were in Ames we went to a nice restaurant that Daddy really loved and has not been able to shut up about for the last four years.
I only remember that the waiter had said, “pardon my reach,” quite few times. One of the reasons I remember this is because we called it the pardon my reach restaurant. I didn’t remember much more than that although I did remember getting a Sprite or something, which just goes to show that it was a while ago considering that, I have not drunk any soda in the last year and a half or possibly two.
The restaurant was amazing though. The words pardon my reach were not said once but the food was very high quality. The first thing that was placed before us was raisin/walnut wheat bread. Then I got a very nicely prepared salad. I tend to not to enjoy salad because I find lettuce to be too bland, but this salad was very good. After that I ordered the only thing on the menu that did not have meat. It was insanely good though. It was a mix of a lot of different vegetables in a mushroom broth. Then we ordered two tasty chocolate mousses. All together everything was very delicious.
Daddy decided that we needed some fresh air so we all walked along Main Street. While walking we spotted a bunny rabbit. Everyone thought that it was very cute but I informed them that bunny’s aren’t just cute like everybody supposes. We were interrupted from our bunny admiring when we saw a firefly flying around. I have never seen a firefly before considering where I live, so that was really cool. I named in “Serenity”. As we walked we saw more and more of them. I decided to name them “Serenity part one,” “Serenity part two,” “Serenity the movie,” “Serenity the second movie,” the last ones nickname is wishful thinking.
And what better way to end the day then fireworks. As we were walking back to the car we heard a moderately large bang and looked over to investigate it. In the sky there was a fireworks display. Why it was there is still a mystery to us but I am convinced it is because of Joss Whedon’s birthday. It all made sense the bunny was to commemorate Anya and of course we all know what the firefly was commemorating. The fireworks were a nice touch. But the real end of the walk was when we heard an even louder siren like sound as a train came zooming by about 10 yards from where we were standing.
Over all it was a nice day and all is good because the Internet is now working!
Best quote of the day:
Winter: What would happen if Elvis shaved his hair off when he was still alive? (Note that absolutely nothing had been said to provoke this question)
Daddy: Winter you are probably the first 10 year old in the world to ask that… today.
And considering the weirdness of that last quote and the fact that I did not do one yesterday, I will give two tied best quotes. Also to understand this next one you must know that I frequently use the come back of saying what some one just said but adding a ‘your’ to it (example: that’s stupid, your stupid)
Winter: This is so cool.
Me: Your cool
Winter: Thank you
Me: Welcome… I mean your welcome
