Let me tell you something: I never knew that shopping for couches would be so damn tiring.
I spend pretty much most of my day on Saturday going to various stores in the area. First I went to TEC Furniture and that's about as ghetto as it sounds. Walk in the door and you're bombared with some WJLB JAMZ (yeah, I loves me some couch-shoppin while listenin about bitches 'n shit). Walked out of there unimpressed.
From there, headed to Value City. They actually had a pretty decent selection but just not too many up my alley. Place pretty much reminded me of TEC (or the other way around) 'coz of a few of the couches were seen at both places.
From there hit up Art Van. Definitely a huge selection. I found two couches that were very comfortable in the clearance center. One had cushions that would be more comfortable for me (read, made out of light weight foam), was $100 cheaper, was decently deep from front of the couch to the back cushions, was actual cloth -- not microfiber -- and had decent upper back support. The only downside was that it didn't have high arms to it, which I felt was something that I needed to have in a couch.
I walked out of Art Van relatively pleased and jetted to Ikea. Wow, do they have some shitty couches. I mean, these things were the same price as the ones at Art Van but were really rock-hard and didn't come past mid-back. Horrible couches for the money, in my opinion.
After I spent a total of 15 minutes in Ikea (and about 50 minutes total driving time there and back), I wound up at my last destination: Gardener White. There I was shown, again, many couches and found one I liked. It was a few hundred dollars more expensive, and was microfiber, but it met all the rest of my requirements. Plus, they were having a 25% off sale, so it wouldn't have cost me so much more. It was getting late so I told them I'd come back tomorrow (Sunday).
Sunday morning arrives and I go straight to Art Van and try out the two couches I liked last night. Then I spot the same damn couch I saw at Gardener White, except it turns out to be hundreds more. But I end up going with it because I didn't like the sales people at Gardener White.
Below is a picture of the couch I picked:
The last time I bought anything of this magnitude was a year ago when I went to look for a matress. And before that, it was probably about four years prior to look for a new car. I personally hate buying these objects because you have to deal with sales people. I strongly dislike sales people. And the whole process of making a decision you will have to live with for a good five years or so. They'll come over and pressure you, and tell you shit you already know, and if they have a personality that you don't like, it'll rub you the wrong way and make it an unplesant experience.
Not only that but there's so many fee's associated with everything. Do you want the stain protection? How about delivery? Extended warranty? Yes, there's a restocking fee if you want to switch out a new couch. Don't forget the sales tax, either. Jesus!
So, I should be getting the couch delivered sometime on November 10th. This means that if any of my friends ever get over their chicken-shit phobias of Detroit and being in social settings, they can actually crash on the couch. But I still don't have a TV yet. Damn.
