More (mis)adventures

I was in an odd mood Friday, just feeling really mentally out of it.  I spent Friday night in NH, watching people I workout with and teach test for second and third degree black belt.  Then, Saturday, I was on the test board for the younger kids testing for first degree and the adults testing for first degree.  That went okay, but it gets exhausting.  There were about thirty people testing in each group on Saturday and 3-4 test boards...  Suffice to say, I saw a LOT of kata.  And, each time I witness a test, it just serves as a reminder that mine is dead last in this run.  I just want to have it already, and it's still more than a week away.  Oh, and, I received a voicemail on my phone on Saturday afternoon - my massage therapist cancelling my massage which had been scheduled for the day before my test.  ARGH.  After the black belt tests, we flew out to the dealer to pick up my car, which had been there for a week having its 60K (i just typo-ed "$60K") service.

Today, Sunday, we threw lamb stew makings in the crock pot before heading out to meet the Hellolami's for lunch at an Indian place we used to frequent in Brookline.  We left early because I had an idea to go to Russo's on our way.  However, I managed to run over a screw about a mile before Russo's, and we had to call AAA to put on the donut.  They managed to have a tow truck there in twenty minutes, which is about as good as you can hope for, but it's still frustrating.

It seems to me we've been having more tire problems than is usual for anybody in the last year.  I hit the curb in May(?), on our way to the lawyer for the first time about the house, when the choice was hit the curb or be run into by a van taking up his lane and mine while turning and squeezing me off the road.  Then, in July, after one of our pre-move trips to the house, I ran over a bolt or something on our way back to the apartment.  And now, a third incident in less than a year.

The tow truck guy ended up being a mechanic at the Saab dealer where we had just had the car all week, and in fact, recognized that he himself had worked on the car at the dealer's just a few days ago.  (He remembered my rainbow bumper sticker, "I remembered the colors", he said.)

Once we got on the road again, we stopped briefly at Russo's - it was a madhouse - and then went on to meet up for lunch.  The buffet was yummy, and we lamented not having found a good Indian place around here yet.  It's a bit of a trek to go to that place all the time.  Then we went up to Coolidge Corner to do an errand and browsed a few stores.

I drove with my hazards on once on the highway (the joy of not being able to go over 50 MPH), and we got to a surprisingly empty Costco tire/auto repair.  They took about 20 minutes, but managed to de-screw and fix the tire, and swap it back on for the donut.  And, since we bought the tires there (although neither Glen nor I can remember the circumstances), did the repair for free.  So, not a bad deal for an hour of inconvenience total today.

Our basement continues to get drier, thanks to two industrial fans Glen bought at Costco yesterday.  It also helps that we're not dumping water three feet from our foundation now that the long line has unfrozen.  Our neighbors, however, on all sides are running circles around us in terms of how much yard work they've been doing.  It's really rather embarrassing.  In fact, I suggested to Glen he go walk around the house a few times with a rake, just for appearances...
