Saw this in a Texas friend's journal. Sharing with you, and bookmarking it for myself.

Marion, you guys gonna be OK? I see dailyrant has been evacuated. Who else lives along the coast?
And here is an excerpt from an email to a friend ... sent this when I got home from town earlier.
Rita has been upgraded to a cat 5 hurricane. It is
projected that Houston will be a lake. It's gonna be
ugly.
Went to Wal Mart to get globes and gas for our coleman
lanterns. The place was packed! Shelves were bare,
and strangers were milling about. I got the globes,
but there was no propane. I accidentally backed into
a guy who was standing too close behind me, he about
went ballistic.
Note, I bumped into him in the store, didn't run into him with the car. His reaction, however, was as if I hit him with my car. On purpose.
Also in town, I heard that the 'officials' are trying to get evacuees in motor homes, or with tents and stuff to go farther west. They are filling up the camp grounds around the river and the lakes. But now it's nearly certain that those areas will be flooded.
