So I was thinking more about my skinny friend - the one who complains that she's fat. And I was contemplating why exactly I never really had an issue with my weight in high school, and I think part of the acceptance was because it was a majority-black school. And I think, overall, the African-American community has held onto the ideal of the voluptuous woman longer than almost any other ethnicity. So, in a way, it was more accepted to have curves and not be stick-thin at my high school than I feel like it is here, at my majority-white college. And the overall diversity may have helped with feeling accepted, too.
