I had en epiphany. I know for sure now why I don't read/write femmeslash. Normally.
I had a suspicion before but I couldn't test it. I thought it was because I'm one of those people who need subtext to see a pairing, but how can there be any subtext where there's hardly any text? None of the fandoms I've ever been in have much interaction between female characters (hey, they don't even have that many of them in the first place). Think about it. Even lovely, sexy Torchwood. I can remember one conversation between Gwen and Tosh in Greeks Bearing Gifts and that's it.
Buffy did have some interaction, but 1) I don't really remember Buffy and Willows friendship getting much attention (is that just me?), 2) I was never in Buffy fandom and 3) I honestly didn't like Buffy all that much (the person, that is).
But yesterday, I read the Volume 1 of Jane Eyre and really liked it, because it was girls/women being important to other girls/women, and being people, and you know what? I could see the potential, and that's what slash is about for me - seeing potential and exploring it. It was lovely for a bunch of other reasons as well, though I don't know what I think of it now Rochester is in the picture. It helps to imagine Alan Rickman playing him. And for some reason, Jane as I imagine her looks kind of like Nancy in The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances. Huh.
I have to finish reading this book by Thursday. Meh. I'm nearly half through it now.
Also, a plea for help: Some time ago I had a handful of pictures of LotR actor engaged in various slashy acts. My computer then crashed and all I have left is one of Dom surprise!snogging Orli (or at least that's what it looks like) which I think was part of a series of three pictures that also shows Dom sneaking up on him, and one of Dom and Viggo, er, poking their tongues together. Do you have any of the others? I've tried searching the internets but it's a bit too big.
I want to spam Mette with them. *grins*
I'm afraid I'm too busy to reply or comment much until Thursday. Too much reading. *sighs*
Oh, and my computer now sounds like the TARDIS when I turn it on or off. That is all.
