Brand New Year, Brand New...Outlook???

Well I'd say that 2009 is off to a somewhat so-so start.  The end of 2008 wasn't at all that great.  I found out just a week before Christmas that the entire call center staff here in the city was laid off, so it wasn't a very merry Christmas for all of us (across the board under our company about 525 people were laid off a week before the holiday and in our branch alone 21 people were given their walking papers).

Anyway, I've decided not to let my getting laid off 3 weeks before the end of 2008 put a damper on things.  Sure it's tough for me budget-wise, but I have a severance pay and a few other things. PLUS I can always apply for EI, which is a good thing.  That would help me a lot while I'm still searching for a job.

I've been sending out resumes here, there and practically everywhere since last month, but so far no such luck.  But I ain't losing hope.  One of these days one of those companies I applied for will do their call backs and I'm off again for another round of interviews and whatnots.

In the meantime I applied for a part-time course at one of the local colleges here.  Since hospital work is in demand, I decided to finally take up Medical Terminology.  The course starts this Saturday and I registered for it yesterday (I know, kinda cutting it real-close but I didn't get my hands on the college part-time courses catalogue until last Friday when I drove my sis to pay for her tuition for this semester) and to make it really official for me, I went ahead and got my photo ID done too! -LoL-  Now all I need to know is what book(s) do I need for the course (I wasn't given a list of books and according to my sister I can always just go to the bookstore and check it out there; since my class doesn't start until Saturday, I have this whole week to devote to finding out what materials I'll need).

Anyway, I'm excited!  It has been years since I was last a student.  And even though I'm only attending school part-time this time, still, it's something different for me since around this time of the year during previous years I was busy working my arse off! -LoL-
