Wow, what a week!

The big kids went back to school on Monday and J and I resumed our normal routine of going out, playing at home and lunch and a nap. Our "going out" consisted of walking to that posh deli in the next neighborhood and meeting with one of the owners.  Wow, they're interested!  They (obviously) don't want to commit to too much at first so we discussed the idea of a 'sale and return' deal whereby I bring a few things every week and then return what they don't manage to sell the following Monday.  I'm perfectly ok with that because I have a houseful of men who will be only too happy to eat leftovers.  Also found out that E and K's baby boy was born.

On Tuesday I took J into town to run a bunch of errands and then to the park and brought B and M home for lunch.  During J's nap, I put together a price list (which I'll add to as I cost things up) and emailed it to the posh deli.

Wednesday was work and I felt good being there.  Not like last week when I just felt rotten.  But really, really good.  I told JC (boss) about the arrangement with the deli and apparently it caused the wheels in his head to start spinning.  D was out at rehearsal that evening and the kids and I read the penultimate chapter of Little Men, which they have really enjoyed.  I spent the rest of the evening trying to finish Barchester Tower for the new book group I've joined.  I was invited by a friend, the wife of one of D's colleagues and my impression is that they're much more focused on the books than the other book group I belong too (for which I really need to start reading The Diviners).

Thursday was work again.  I got the first order done without a hitch, but the second order was taking ages and it was pretty clear that the Suma website was misbehaving.  I went home early with every intention of getting the Suma order in before I left for the book group meeting (yeah, fat chance), but not before JC told me that he wanted to make an arrangement with me whereby I bake gluten-free cakes and sell them to him, to be sold in the shop.  Apparently our gluten-free cake hasn't been selling all that well and a whole cake was thrown away because it had gone off before it was sold.  I'm really excited and have all sorts of things in mind.

B had mentioned a few days ago that he was sure something would go wrong for him today because of the whole 'Friday the 13th' thing.  Well, he woke with a stomach ache and it was decided that he would stay home.  Of course, I had big plans for today (as always) and left him on his own for a while during which time I popped into our own local deli and talked to the owner.  Seems he really loved the box of samples and is interested in having me bake for him too!  So I'm really in business now.

Speaking of which, I made a whole bunch of phone calls this afternoon.  For starters, I called the city council to see what, if anything, I need to do in order to run a home baking business.  They sent me a link and I filled out a form on their website...and presto!  I'm in business!  I also phoned the local Arts in Education center to let them know that B will no longer be having trumpet lessons.  One of his trumpet-playing friends has stopped her lessons and as a result, he is alone during his lesson.  So the price of the lessons has doubled.  We discussed this with B and made it clear that if he didn't see himself continuing with trumpet, this would be a good time to stop.  He's decided that he would rather concentrate on piano (we've been teaching him piano for the last few years) and we've decided to find a teacher for both boys.

We found out this afternoon that E and K's baby has been readmitted to the hospital and has an infection, possibly meningitis.  This is really, really frightening.  I honestly don't know what's worse - having E (who is a doctor) know that there is so much that could be going wrong, or being a non-medical professional and just have no clue.  I truly hope that their long road to parenthood doesn't end in tragedy.  It's just heartbreaking.

In other news this week, M has finished building his fighter plane model.  J is saying 'coat' and 'sleeves' when it's time to go out.  And I baked gluten-free, dairy-free brownies for dessert this evening and they were yummy.  In fact, I think I need to go downstairs and have some more :-)
