wedding anniversary
Twenty one years later I still love G very much.
Are we the same kids who got married? Probably not.
Do we still share love and respect for each other? Absolutely yes.
Is there some trick to being married so long in an age when so many are on their second and even third marriages? Low expectations. Good teamwork. A willingness to compromise. And at each pothole in the road.. we make the choice to stay together. Not to go it alone but to challenge ourselves to be better together.
To celebrate today we went out for breakfast. Fancy tea for lunch and our wedding champagne later in the day. We had a sick child and could not get away this year. Oh well. There's always next year.
For me, this year was special in a quiet way. At 42 and having been married 21 years.. my life is now neatly split down the middle. Life I lived with G is now half as long as life I've lived period. The symmetry of it is pleasing.
