Structured Teaching Workshop on Sat

I had that talk with AA (actually not, more a talk with L and some other parents about starting SLT with Keith) and then told him that we'll wait after all. And today I just got a email from the MTW course trainer and she strongly recommends him for SLT. I am totally confused and worried that if we start late, we might be delaying precious time. Part of me still hopes that it's just a phase he'll pass through. Especially when we caught him calling me "ma.......ma......" on Saturday night. Looks like we'll have to do some evaluation soon.

Anyway, Saturday was informative, with me getting a lot of information on how to do some structured teaching. We thought we'll wait till he has his individual assessment of needs before we handle anything or change anything at home. But it looks hopeful and looks very useful even for Jess. We'll have to set up the place so that there are different areas for various activities:

1) Play area
To play with other children, or toys of interest.

2) Work Alone area
For tasks to work alone with. Training independence here with tasks that he knows how to complete and is less frustrated with.

3) Snack Area
For eating and interactions.

4) Teaching area
For the trainer to teach new stuff or tasks. Should not be the same as the work alone area.

5) Quiet area
For him to cool down before heading off to the tasks or teaching again.

These are what I can remember. Seems like a lot of areas for a small place like ours. But I guess we'll have to start partitioning once the individual assessment of needs pull through. Then we also have to create some schedules and time- tables to let him know when he need to do what. But first, I think I need to work on the first, then board more so that he understands sequences.

In the meantime, Keith is responding well to stuff that are happening to him. He seems to understand better "first..., then..." after we tried several times "first milk, then sleep". But I'll need more pictures of him undressing and dressing, so that we can sequence the dressing part better. and they had to be real pictures as he cannot understand line drawings too well.

Seems like a lot to do with him nowadays. We have PECS to practice, MTW to practice and now even structured teaching. Maybe we really should hold the SLT for a while and observe some more.
