I am in love...

...with "Leverage". I can't think of the last time I found a first season finale so satisfying. And knowing that there's more coming in July makes me a happy fangirl.

As for the finale of "Top Chef", not so happy. :-( Although Stefan was as sweet to Carla as I've ever seen him.

Yesterday was Ash Wednesday, so I have embarked on my Lenten depravations...no shopping and no sweets. Hopefully, I will be both wealthier and thinner by the time Easter rolls around. And I have to start thinking about my Easter ensemble. If I lose 5-10 pounds during Lent, I will be wearing a pale taupe tweed suit with black and turquoise accents and a turquoise hat. If I lose 10-15 pounds during Lent, I will be wearing a zippered red suit with a red/black/white hat.

I attended the 12:15 p.m. service for the Imposition of Ashes, which my hairdresser Jonas had never heard of. How is that possible? Anyhoo, I got my hair cut after church, and that pretty much took care of the ashes. Since it is Lent, the dirges have begun. The Episcopal church has a set roster of theme music for the various seasons on the liturgical calender, and Lent means dirges in minor keys, and relatively few of them have voice parts written in. They're quite depressing, and I sing alto, so they're also frustrating.

I also ushered at the 6 p.m. service, and the last hymn, "Forty Days and Forty Nights", included parts. So I stood in the back of the church with the other ushers and sang the alto. Afterwards, Sam, once of our cutest ushers (married, and a lot younger than me), came up to me and said, "You have a lovely voice", which surprised me, because the hymn has a fairly unadventurous alto line. But I thanked him and demurred, saying the range on that particular hymn was good for me. I don't really have that good a voice. It's just the fact that I, as a recovering Baptist, sing the harmony part, the novelty of which appeals to Episcopalians, who don't tend to sing harmony on their hymns. I'm not sure why.

After that, I went home and tried to finish "The Devil You Know", by Mike Carey, which is the fantasy book for Friday night. It's my choice, and I have to finish it, but it's going really slowly. I find that I can't read until late into the night anymore. I fall asleep in my chair in the den, and that's all she wrote. Except for the crick in my neck.

I have, at least, planned my menu (since it's my choice, I'm hosting):

Starter
Creamy tomato soup

Dinner
Barbecue pork ribs
White beans with country ham
Scalloped potatoes
Carrot/pineapple slaw
Cornbread

Dessert
Cream cheese cookies
Mocha coffee with cream
