One thing I don't like about Germany...wireless internet connections. It's absolutely rediculous! I know it's because of the thick old stone walls, but geez! I haven't had such a hard time staying online, ever!
Yesterday, I really didn't do much of anything. I tried to give Chris a call, but he couldn't hear me, and I gave up.
On Tuesday though, I ventured out to the Innenstadt (city center) in the rain. Really, it rains a lot here in the winter. (Now's when I get to laugh at all of you stuck in the snowstorm in Milwaukee!!) Rain is typical of a German winter in these parts. If you're lucky enough to be south of the mountains (as I always have been) you'll have a more temperate climate. I've been taunting Chris with tales of 50 degree Farhenheit weather. Unfortunately, I'd rather deal with snow than the rain.
I took a wander through the Fußgängerzone (pedestrian zone). I was actually a bit disappointed. Back when the economies were good, many stores globalized, and now I can go to the same stores in the States. I did stop and get myself some Bretzelnbrötchen (pretzel rolls). Yummy!!
It didn't take long for my feet to get soaked, so I did what anyone would do and stopped in a coffee shop to dry off. Ahhh...the familiarities of home, huh?
And I'm beginning to think my German has lapsed quite a bit. I was trying to figure out why after just one sentence the shop owners would all ask, "You speak English, no?" Yes, I do. But I used to live in Germany. I was speaking in German. I was even speaking the same dialect... Do I now have a freakin' "AMERICAN" stamp across my forehead?! It wasn't until I was falling asleep that it clicked.... I was starting my sentences with "König ich..." I was asking them to KING ME! I should have been saying "Könnte ich..." (Could I...)
Guess I should be more careful, huh? :-)
