Also, Candice Accola will never NOT make me cry when she gets upset. Much like Dean with his single tear, she's perfected that 'on her way to a total breakdown' chin wobble and it gets me every time. I love her though, so I can't really complain.
I was SO glad that Elena was there for her instead of it being an instant "must need a boy" because so many times when the shit goes down for Caroline, it takes a guy bringing Elena to her for her to get noticed. ;; BFFs again.

I think it's not only "it takes a guy" in the past but also just other issues taking precedence/distracting everyone and running interference, for a number of reasons.
Actually, that's a bit how it has been the first two season with all the girls - they didn't have too many scenes where they are just acting as friends, just relationships with guys where they really invest those feelings and where they find their comfort for their traumas. Which, I suppose, is just par for the course with teenagers.
I'm glad this season hasn't been like that, for any of them. There's been so much more attention paid to the Elena/Caroline/Bonnie friendships, and just the human, from-the-sandbox friendships in general.
Matt was so magnificently wonderful and understanding and just there through thick and thin.
Damon's reaction to Elena shacking it up with Matt Donovan? was so precious. No but she should.

Me either, not at all. What Elena has with Matt is leagues different but I think that's the point, you know? It's just as complex, but you're never going to love everyone in exactly the same way. This is a perspective problem Elena has with a lot of her r/ships re: love. She says what she had with Matt wasn't "passionate." No, it wasn't. It was something else, but that doesn't necessarily mean different = less.
