More boring stuff about my flat:
I have found that the bath is very slow to drain. And in some circumstances, the kitchen sink drain can back up into the bath. Not great, but not the end of the world. I was of the opinion that there was some manner of blockage, something confirmed by the amount of hair and other such crud in the plughole.
I have since spent several tens of pounds on variously aggressive drain cleaners. These have improved the situation, but not solved it. This evening, I went and shelled out £6 on a drain snake. Not being able to work out where the exit from the plughole was, I took the side of the bath off. Then, I think I saw the cause of the problem.
The bath drain appears to be the lowest drain in the system, and the drain travels uphill.
Now, I'm not much of a lad for physics, having done much better at chemistry and biology at school, but even I know that water doesn't naturally flow upwards.
My options, therefore, appear to be:
1. Raise the bath so the drain flows downhill.
2. Install one or more non-return valves.
3. Install a pump.
Happily, my dad is calling round at the weekend, and there is little to do with plumbing he can't manage. An endlessly practical man, my pa. If he can't fix it, I'm buggered.
In the meantime, it drains. Slowly.
