And just because her first ep's set in the Victorian age doesn't *mean* she's a Victorian. She might already be travelling with Eleven when she's introduced.
I agree that would be pretty terrible, really, on a couple of different levels, and I personally don't know whether there is any confirmation that this might be the route Moffat is going to go down (all I've seen so far is a lot of fan speculation, and we know how accurate that usually turns out to be), but I would hope not
( ... )
I've no idea! I didn't even know until I saw it mentioned last night (on someone's LJ I think) that JLC's character was supposedly called Clara as I've not looked at the new series news.
I wouldn't mind the identical-looking ancestor that much but could EASILY live without the crappy 'identical cousin' because that's seriously shite (trust RTD to come up with that!).
But the reincarnation idea doesn't sound too appalling. Certainly NOT as appalling as 'Oswin's the new companion who's going to end up a Dalek'!!
I don't know anything about the new companion but Hubby was speculating that we've seen Oswin's future, she becomes another River, living her life out of order (for us). I really don't think Moffat will repeat himself like this.
I'm hoping the future companion is a regeneration/clone/twin/ancestor/descendent of Oswin, rather than Oswin herself.
I have to say I was well-impressed with the actress. She delivered her lines brilliantly and I can see her being a gobby, challenging companion which is always good for the Doctor.
I would be appalled if JLC's playing Oswin once she takes over as companion.
And yes, I liked the actress - I've not seen her in anything else, so it was good to see her and her interaction with Matt. I wasn't dreading her arrival because, although I love Rory, I'm not that fond of Amy - but that said, I feel reassured by having seen JLC and Matt together already.
Y'see I'm the opposite. Rory has always been a total wimp for me. Yes, he did the whole Roman Centurian thing but he doesn't have a lot of backbone or common sense. He's been killed more times than a really dead thing so he's always annoyed me. Amy, on the other hand, I've always loved :-)
Reading around fandom I know I'm holding a minority view, but I think a lot of the Rory likers/lovers (although certainly not all of them) want to hold him and cuddle him and protect him, and see Amy as 'in the way'.
Of course, this species of Who fan may be a relative of the OMGTWUWUVWOSEY species, which would explain a lot :-P
I've no desire to hold, cuddle or protect Rory - I don't find him hugely fanciable. I just love the fact that he spoke his mind to the Doctor on that trip to Venice with the wierd vampire-fish-people. Anyone who stands up to the Doctor is a Good Person as far as I'm concerned. Plus, like Martha, he notices things (re. all the photos and info he'd gathered of the coma patients in the very first episode).
So I guess I disagree about his lack of backbone and common sense.
My theory is that he finds a way to either save her or change her past. Since they're setting the Doctor up as a moral force unto himself, I"m voting for him changing her past and borking a lot of things up in the process.
Pretty sure that's not going to be the scenario, for the simple reason that Oswin doesn't seem to recognize the Doctor, or to have the vaguest idea why he upsets the Daleks so. I didn't catch her first name when she gave it, but it didn't sound to me like the name I've often heard as the companion's name. It's the same surname though. Either the companion is someone else from this Oswin's family; or, if it's the same person, she's fated to be rescued from Dalekness in the Christmas special, which seems to me just the kind of thing for a Christmas special.

But then again, from what we've seen so far (spoilers and such) I was under the impression that the new companion is from the Victorian age.
If that's the case then the real question is, what does this future genius have to do with a Victorian lass?

Given how the Moff likes to reuse ideas... Ganger body! Bet ya!

That's what I've been reading, and it's not what I thought Coleman's line was last night.
