I don't know anything about the new companion but Hubby was speculating that we've seen Oswin's future, she becomes another River, living her life out of order (for us). I really don't think Moffat will repeat himself like this.

I'm hoping the future companion is a regeneration/clone/twin/ancestor/descendent of Oswin, rather than Oswin herself.

I have to say I was well-impressed with the actress. She delivered her lines brilliantly and I can see her being a gobby, challenging companion which is always good for the Doctor.

I would be appalled if JLC's playing Oswin once she takes over as companion.

And yes, I liked the actress - I've not seen her in anything else, so it was good to see her and her interaction with Matt. I wasn't dreading her arrival because, although I love Rory, I'm not that fond of Amy - but that said, I feel reassured by having seen JLC and Matt together already.

Y'see I'm the opposite. Rory has always been a total wimp for me. Yes, he did the whole Roman Centurian thing but he doesn't have a lot of backbone or common sense. He's been killed more times than a really dead thing so he's always annoyed me. Amy, on the other hand, I've always loved :-)

Reading around fandom I know I'm holding a minority view, but I think a lot of the Rory likers/lovers (although certainly not all of them) want to hold him and cuddle him and protect him, and see Amy as 'in the way'.

Of course, this species of Who fan may be a relative of the OMGTWUWUVWOSEY species, which would explain a lot :-P

I've no desire to hold, cuddle or protect Rory - I don't find him hugely fanciable. I just love the fact that he spoke his mind to the Doctor on that trip to Venice with the wierd vampire-fish-people. Anyone who stands up to the Doctor is a Good Person as far as I'm concerned. Plus, like Martha, he notices things (re. all the photos and info he'd gathered of the coma patients in the very first episode).

So I guess I disagree about his lack of backbone and common sense.

I loved Wee!Amelia. But adult!Amy has never appealed to me at all. I don't hate or dislike her, I just don't actually like her.

Absolutely! And Who is big enough that people ought* to be able to get along reasonably well even if we don't all like the same companions/incarnations of the Doctor.

(*Yes, I know that's a pipe dream!)

I feel the same way. Rory is just so meh for me that I sort of forget he is even there half the time (which is sad for me, because I adore Arthur). But Amy is one of my all-time favorite companions and I'm going to miss her lots.

But, obviously, many feel differently. And yeah, we're definitely in the fandom minority.
