gatechic, after seeing my Top 5 Men of Classic Who post the other day, asked for my Top 5 Women of Classic Who. This is a dial-up unfriendly, pic-heavy post because I ♥ the women of Classic Who to an almost scary degree! Be warned, there be spoilers within!
Sarah Jane Smith, fiesty, sassy, sexy and (these days) running her own alien-fighting, world-saving crew of teenagers justifiably spans the whole of the Whoniverse:
She started out meeting the Third Doctor and getting him out of his funk after his second companion had left him, just like his first did! And pretty soon he was saying 'Jo who?'
Then she travelled with Four - and occasionally UNIT MO, Harry Sullivan - including a trip, via Time Ring, to the distant past of Skaro, where the TARDIS team met Davros for the first time.
Nothing says the (Tenth) Doctor loves you like him repairing, and then replacing (with an upgraded version, no less) your K-9 model.
Unless, of course, it's him giving you a Sonic (Lipstick) of your own!! (Honestly, who needs a clone!Doctor when you've got your own K-9 and Sonic Lipstick?)
Liz Shaw, fiesty redhead, holder of over a dozen degrees, snarky, sexy and with legs to die for - no wonder Three wanted her all to himself!
Of course, the Brig was less than amused, after all, he seconded Liz to UNIT from her very important Cambridge research project to assist him, not the Doctor!
Initially Liz was not amused with the Brigadier and his high-handed ways, but eventually she thawed towards him, and they even snuck out for a bit of quiet time together...
... or else they stayed in the lab, working on their chemistry... :P
Romana, later Lady President of Gallifrey, was the Doctor's only Time Lord companion. Whether she's a brunette ice queen or a blonde school girl, she's always capable of pwning the Fourth Doctor!
Making an entrance is something that Romana is very good at doing! And I particularly like her taste in hats - something she carried through to her second incarnation...
Either wearing Four's hat (and scarf and jacket!) or a boater for punting on the Cam in the (sadly) never completed 'Shada'.
She also looked good in this pink suit, with extra-long white scarf in 'Destiny of the Daleks'.
Dr Evelyn Smythe, professor of History at Cambridge University, and young Lucie Miller, are two audio-only companions from Big Finish. Finding pictures of their characters isn't easy, sadly.
In Evelyn's case there's the
animated webcast: 'Real Time'!
While in Lucie's case, there are always the Big Finish audio drama covers.
