The soft rustle of fabric made Elizabeth crane her neck to see the lady. The pretty lady was visiting Grandma again. She always knew when it was the pretty lady, because her skirts were the only ones that made that particularly rich rustling noise. Grandma wasn't happy to see the lady this time, but Elizabeth didn't know why. Grandma was usually delighted to see the lady; she said that other customers came to the shop because the lady did. But today Grandma was yelling at the lady to get out of the shop and take her curse with her. The lady said that she had come to make a purchase. Grandma told her again to get out. The lady smiled. It was so pretty that Elizabeth forgot herself and sighed aloud. The lady heard the soft sound and turned, smiling, to see Elizabeth hiding behind the bookshelf.
Inspiration: music by Faith and the Muse
Story Potential: High.
Notes: The "pretty lady" passes the curse along to Elizabeth with the aid of something in the store. Of course, there's a blessing hidden inside the curse. This is only the warm-up. The real story is when Elizabeth is older.
