Sixteen steps from her cabin to the deck. Forty steps from the deck to the bulkhead. Twenty paces the length of the bulkhead. Two hundred and forty seven circles of the sponge to wipe the bulkhead clean. Six squeezes of the sponge to get all the dirt out of it. Twelve steps to the galley to empty the bucket and stow the cleaning supplies. Four rotations to wash her hands. Ten minutes to assemble sandwiches with two layers of meat in each of the sixteen. Two minutes to cut the sandwiches into quarters of bread. Five minutes to carry the sandwiches to the captain's quarters. Here time became annoyingly imprecise--she had tried estimating the time by--
Inspiration: The OCD within.
Story Potential: High. Something in me (gee, wonder what?) finds the idea of a true obsessive-compulsive protag irresistable.
Notes: Could be sci-fi, could be straight-up pirate historical. Could be problematic, as what I know about space opera (or sea) battles could be fit into a thimble. Hey! Flanking maneuvers! Yeah, that's about it. Somehow, this OCD cabingirl ends up captaining a ship (or leading resistance against boarders/intruders/her old ship?). Hmm. Consider possibilities for intersection with native culture. Hmm. Smells like a novel.
