Listen: High Fantasy

The sound of the horns outside the castle wall made Riga raise her head from her pillow. She sniffed the air and whined. "Easy, girl," her mistress told her, rising from the bed and sweeping a long robe of velvet over her nightclothes. "Your master has returned, or so the horns say." The queen's long auburn hair hung smoothly and shone in the torchlight as she lifted the royal circlet from its pillow and set it on her brow. "We must go to greet him." Riga whined again and scrabbled her paws against the ground. "Heel, girl," her mistress commanded. Riga slunk forward, reluctant. The queen did not notice that the halls had emptied of the common servants. She did not notice that Riga snapped at a shadow that shrunk away from her. She was filled with thoughts of the joy that would be on her lord's face when he saw her again.

Inspiration: Faith and the Muse - their music sounds very High Fantasy to me.
Story Potential: medium-high, I suppose.
Notes: Either he's dead and they're invading, or he's captured and they're invading. Regardless, bad shit about to happen. The Queen survives, but she takes a vow of silence (maybe becomes itinerant?) and learns to listen (as she did not listen to Riga). This leads her to be able to speak. And so she defeats the invaders with words.

fantasy, high fantasy, medium-high potential
