Prompt #1: The newest Captain Hero discovers he has a fear of heights.

Spoiler Rating: 2/5 Potential canon. There are elements here that will be happening in the story but I haven’t decided if the next Captain Hero really will be afraid of heights or not. This contains only minor spoilers that have already been mentioned in the story, on LJ, or on my tumblr.

“So I hear that congratulations are in order, Captain,” Donna was grinning on the porch when George opened the front door.
“Not really,” George looked crestfallen as he stepped aside to let Donna in.
“Wait…Viola called and told me that her Dad had retired and that you were promoted to Captain Hero today. She doesn’t usually get stuff like that wrong...” Donna trailed off at the look on George’s face. “What happened?”
George sat down heavily on the bench in the entry way, “I did get promoted.”
“You don’t seem happy about that. I thought you wanted to be the next Captain Hero. I mean your Grandpa hand picked you for the role right?” Donna asked as she sat down beside him.
“He did.”
“So why aren’t you excited?”
George closed his eyes and tilted his head back, “It’s really embarrassing.”
“Try me.”
“I’m apparently afraid of heights.”
Donna just blinked at him for a moment as George got up and began to pace.
“I’m Captain Hero. I have to fly to work and I’m afraid of heights!” George exclaimed as he threw his hands up in the air. “My Grandmother practically died trying to find the formula for flight for Grandpa and I’m too terrified to use their gift!”
George dropped onto the bench again and buried his head in his hands. “I’m a disgrace…”
“Hey. No. Come here,” Donna gently pulled George toward her. “We can work through this. What exactly happened? Did you get off the ground at all or were you unable to even try?”
“Well I drank the formula that gives you the ability to fly so theoretically I can do it. And then we headed out to the training ground so I could learn how to control the ability. I did hover a little off the ground. You know, push off, hover, come back down. And that was fine. But then they took me up to the top of this high diving board thing and told me to jump. I was supposed to control the decent and touch down. But I just completely froze.”
“What were you afraid of? If you were able to hover you’ll be able to stop a fall.”
George closed his eyes and sighed, “In theory I know that. But I flashed back to being kicked out of the alien space ship and how much that landing hurt. The board was even higher than the ship was that night. Then I got worried about what a fall from that height might do to the babies if I wasn’t able to control it. And then I just couldn’t make myself jump. Eventually they let me climb back down and said we would try again when I got back from leave…”
“Oh George,” Donna smiled and snuggled up to him. “It’s going to be fine. Those are all perfectly normal reactions. And we can work on overcoming your fear together. We’ll wait until the babies are here, that will take care of the second part, and then we’ll practice having you jump off of things from gradually higher places until you feel comfortable. You’ll be zooming around in no time. I know you can do this.”
At that George finally gave her a small smile and pulled her closer. “What would I do without you?” he murmured as he buried his face against her shoulder.
