I've been up for over 2 hrs now. From 3:45 to now.
My muscles seemed sore, so I took a Motrin, but just never got sleepy again. Maybe it's because a lot has been happening at work.
Monday: I thought that the PO for 87 Dells I'm buying won't go out until 5/8, after the Oracle upgrade is completed and the financial system is back on-line. Then someone comes up to us Monday and asks, "Where are we going to put the Dells?" We're like, "What Dells?" "The Dells you ordered." "What? They're ordered?" There's a space crunch at work. A building has to be razed for the construction of the new Gates building. So there has been a lot of moving around and relocating of folks. But space like my group's storage area is gone.
I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth. Not only was my request approved, but heck, it's ordered. Where the heck do we put 87*2 boxes? 23 Precisions won't be installed until June and the Optiplexes (or Optiplexen?) will be installed in August.
Yes John, there will be no new Macs in the computer labs this year. ;)
Tuesday: We find out we can rent space monthly and by the pallet, but it's at the university central receiving area that's like, 2-3 miles away. We call Dell to change delivery address, but the driver is already going to be here any day and not sure if the driver will redirect at the last minute.
Next, I get a phone call that Jana was climbing in the playground, fell and cut her lip. Something about blood on her clothes so I know when I pick her up. (They had changed her top and when I washed her "bloody top," there really wasn't much blood).
Then, in the afternoon, I host my annual meeting with fine arts faculty to review multimedia lab facilities. We've come along away in these meetings, and I do look forward to them now. Looks like I'll be beefing up my knowledge and experience in color calibration equipment and render farm solutions. Looks like I'm headed for SIGGraph (Boston this year).
In comes another phone call, Jana bit two of her classmates. Unusual behavior. Yadda yadda yadda. I start looking up child psych books on-line at the library, they all seem to be old editions (like published in 1963). So I order
this one from Amazon minutes before my 4:30 meeting.
Finally, I attend a meeting hosted by Student Senate regarding students' concern with Linux lab facilities. At moments it got rather contentious. Maybe having such a meeting during the last week of classes wasn't a good thing. Who knows? I didn't get home until 7:45pm. Blah.
Wednesday: 2 pallets from Dell arrive and we're able to send them directly to central receiving (instead of main campus). I think Fred mentioned 4 more are expected Thursday.
I turn my weekly staff meeting into a lunch meeting and treat them to a meal...while we gabbed about the fun meeting the night before (some sarcasm here). I think I needed that. It was more of a chat session than a meeting. The grilled portabella was enjoyably good!
Then I find out that 1/3 of the agenda items at the monthly staff meeting are me. Egad, it's starting to seem like my group is always 1/3 of the agenda items.
Thursday: managers meeting in the morning than another faculty meeting in the afternoon. And possibly, another student meeting at 4:30.
Hmm, next week is our end of year party. We need to come up with a prize for the student consultants. We have an incentive promotion where, when you do something above and beyond, you get a point. If you do something boneheaded, a point gets deducted. Each point is an entry into a raffle of cool surprise. It's so secret, we never know what it will be until we buy it. We did a DVD recorder last semester. And a portable DVD player the semester before that.
I know, I really didn't want to have work posts here. This was supposed to be my space away from work. Doh, and we need to start wrapping up the photo event we sponsored at work last Friday.
Sigh, I might as well stay up at this point.
