On 11/1, while driving to Sam's Club/Target after school, Jana decided to count to 8, in SPANISH! Considering I haven't been speaking to her in Spanish, that rocks. :) I used to be fluent, this is a great opportunity for me to practice too.
And this past Wednesday, when I dropped Jana off, she was still eating a bagel, so we sat in the Piazza (dining hall) at the table her class usually sits at. All her friends were already done with snack, so it was just the both of us. Near us were some friends from PreSchool I (the next class up) and PreSchool II. The teacher from PreII greated Jana and then introduced herself to me. She told me that Jana has been spending time in her classroom. "That's awesome! I'm glad to hear, hope she's enjoying it." Then the teacher turned to her and spoke in Spanish and Jana replied only with a nod. The teacher said, "It looks like she understood me! Buenos dias!" Well, Jana's mouth was full, she again nodded. I told Jana, "Hey, you can practice your Spanish with her here!" The teacher then said, "Si, I would be happy to help!"
Jumping back a couple more days, on Monday was our first parent-teacher meeting for the year. Michael and I got to learn of 2 other friends Jana has been showing preference to spend time with. She's been into 3D building toys, addicted to books (she takes 3-5 with her to her napping mat) and seems to be one of the more mature in the class. So they plan to get her to spend more time with the PreI class.
Physically, she's invented another game at school (she invented a very popular game back in the infant wing of grabbing a purse and running in a circle) where they take baby stuffed animals, run from bush to bush in the playground with the animal cradled attempting to "save" them. And it sounds like, she's the first one in her class to successfully cross the monkey bars in the older children's playground without touching her feet to the ground.
At home, I've been working with her to write her name and verbally spell her name. With the upcoming winter months, I'm planning on enrolling her in the next Gymkhana session.
