First, the general update: taking this new job was the best decision I have made in ages. I was aware on some level that work caused me a lot of stress, but it's one thing to know that and another to have a weight lifted from your mind and realize it's been hanging over you for years.

I have spent the last several weeks trying to convince myself I had gotten over either the flu (though no fever, so probably not?) or a nasty, lingering cold; finally gave up this week, called in sick on Friday, and spent the better part of two days in bed. Despite the writing and far too much work, I've been doing a lot of reading. I finished two books in the last two days! Not sure what I'll pick up next, but these were both very good.

In the flush of discovering new fandoms and actually getting some writing done, I've been sitting on several novella- and novel-length Sherlock fics and haven't yet been able to read them. It's a Sunday afternoon and they're now downloaded to my Kindle, so we'll see if the new WIPs will leave me alone long enough for some quality reading time.

I have to run--family is here, hurray!--but first I have to say something about my Yuletide gift this year. It's Lev Grossman's The Magicians with Alice and Julia.
