I finished giving the yard a much needed "haircut" yesterday. Now it is up to hubby to do the weed eating and edging. I've used a lawn mower before, but I've never used a weed eater/edger. The yard looks much nicer. I would have liked to not cut it quite so close, but I couldn't adjust the wheels on the lawn mower so it got a close shave. That's fine because it will keep it looking nicer longer. Before the next mowing though the wheels will be adjusted so it cuts higher. I'm hoping that with the close cut we won't have to mow again before out guests arrive next week (or during their visit for that matter). We just might weed eat and edge to "touch things up" a bit.
Another thing on the long list of round-to-its to get done was making and putting up Gavin's curtain tiebacks. Since he has a 6-inch section of wall in between his two windows I couldn't use the U-shaped holdbacks like we have in our bedroom. I found a website online that explained how to make tiebacks so I followed their directions for the most part (I didn't have any graph paper).
I got the last of the fabric material needed to make the tiebacks when we were in Pensacola on Monday, but completely forgot about getting some sort of rings and wall hooks. I sewed the tiebacks yesterday morning while Gavin and Zander were playing. After Zander was picked up I finished mowing the yard (I got 1/3 done on Sunday), showered and then we went out to eat since I was in no shape to cook and hubby's not the best at it either. I asked if we could stop by the craft store near the mall so I could get the rings and hooks. The craft store had the rings (key rings since they didn't have plastic ones), but they didn't have any hooks that weren't suction cup types. Luckily there was a hardware store across the street that had just what I needed.
I ended up going to bed early last night, but slept poorly due to being hot/humid. I even got up and changed the bedsheets at one point (it was time anyway) just to see if that would cool off the bed. While I was pleasantly surprised to discover the cream sheets I thought were ruined from the move had come clean during a recent washing (they had been on the bed when the movers folded the comforter and sheets together and the comforter "bled" on the sheets while in storage).
When I was up for the day I decided to go ahead and "hang" the newly finished curtain tiebacks in Gavin's room. It's amazing how much light there is in his room now even though his blinds are still closed. And his curtains aren't even lined, they're made from a basic "calico" with the characters from Cars on them.
I'll be doing laundry and some cleaning today to keep on track with getting the house clean before next Wednesday.
