Keep your patents out of my genes!

National Geographic reports that one fith of human genes have been patented. I have a problem with this. It's called public domain and/or prior art. Per the article "The earliest gene patents were obtained around 1978". Well, human genes, I was born in 1977, if any of the genes in my body violate one of those patents I claim prior art. If the patent was filed before my birth in 1977 but not granted until 1978 I'll just get one of you old codgers who's older than me and reads this to do the same.

Patents are way out of hand already. Microsoft has a patent on the human body, a kid has patented swinging on a swing, and it's not just the US, to prove their own patent system was fucked up a Melbourne man patented the wheel.

I once heard of a catch in copyright law. You can take a picture of a tree and copyright it and nobody can legally copy and sell your picture. I can however go to exactly where you stood at the same time of day and take a picture of the same tree and copyright my own as well. You're fine doing this as long it isn't a fireworks show in Houston, or certain buildings in plain view of the public.

This claiming ownership on everything is bullshit. I'm about to put on some tie dyed clothes and jam.
