I always find it awkward when someone talks to you in a public restroom. On the one hand there are the comments you will say to strangers, such as "that paper towel dispenser is empty" or "you left your ring by the sink", and they are normal interactions. Then there are the people who see you at the sink washing your hands and decide to start an in-depth conversation. This often happens to me at work, where a co-worker will decide to start chatting in the restroom. I wash my hands, they talk, I dry my hands, they talk, I stand there wondering if I can leave yet, they talk. I don't know, I just don't see the restroom as a place to speak to anyone. It weirds me out. If you have something to say, say it in the hallway or something. I think part of it is related to the idea that ladies do not use the restroom, so if you run into someone there you are supposed to act like they are invisible and not actually there. Where is our sense of decorum? Simply speaking while at the sinks freaks me out, so obviously those people who converse while actually in the restroom shock me to the core. Shocked and appalled I tell you! I've found that in the cell phone age people talk on their phones at inappropriate times, such as when they are checking out at a store (so rude to the register person!) or whatnot, but to have a conversation in the bathroom is just gross. What about the "noises"? Ewwwww, I'm grossing myself out. *shudder* It all just seems so strange.
That was a really weird thing to talk about but I can't help it. It just really bothers me!
