The baby.

It hungered.

And it hungered for nachos specifically.

Unfortunately for Erin, the pregnant mother of said unborn baby who hungered, there was a whole flight of stairs between her and the kitchen. The stairs weren't the problem. Her pregnancy hadn't made her ungainly yet.

No.

It was her parents who were the problem. She was pretty certain that if she looked up the word 'overprotective' in the dictionary, a gigantic picture of 'Rhyden' would be next to the definition. It was quite obnoxious.

On one hand she totally understood. She had heard stories about her mother's pregnancy. But Erin was as healthy as healthy could be. She wasn't even sick! Well, she might have come close to throwing up once, but only that one time! She might be a little bit more tired than normal, but that was it!

However, her parents...hovered.

She sighed again and decided that her going to get nachos just totally wasn't worth it. She went back into her bedroom. As she entered, Puck, who was typing something on his laptop, looked up at her with his eyebrows raised.

"I thought you were going to make nachos," he said.

"I was going to. But the 'rents are still up and I don't think I can handle anymore mollycoddling from Rhyden. God. Only five more months of this bullshit."

He snorted. "Whenever you say 'Rhyden' I imagine this two headed monster with a red fauxhawk."

"Well that's pretty much what they've become. I'm pregnant for fuck's sake. I'm not dying, nor am I some sort of invalid. They really need to come up with a new hobby because this entire 'Let's suck all the fun out of our daughter's life just because we can' thing is getting old."

"Ere, you know that's not what they're doing. Not on purpose anyway. They're doing it because of how your mother was during her pregnancy. They're also doing it because, well, because of Quinn. They're worried about you."

"Well they shouldn't be!"

"But they are."

She clenched her jaw and gave Puck The Look. "You know, if my dad heard you talking like this, he'd probably like you more. Then all three of you can be against me."

"I'd be a lot more hurt by that statement if your mother hadn't pulled me to the side and assured me that your dad doesn't really hate me."

"So you are against me! I knew it!"

He rolled his eyes. "You know what? You're right. This is going to be a very long five months."

She crossed her arms. "You want to say that I'm being an asshole, don't you?"

"I don't need to say it if you already know it."

She replied with a disdainful sniff and then stuck her tongue out at him.

He rolled his eyes again and went back to typing on his laptop. She could see that he was trying not to grin. It appeared that nothing she said would really bother him. With a dramatic sigh, she laid down upon their bed and watched him as he typed away at some article for the newspaper. She tapped her fingers on her slightly bulging belly. After a few moments she said, "You know, if I were to go downstairs and announce that I wanted to eat some cheesecake, my dad would not only carry me to the kitchen, he would also throw a parade with balloons and confetti and everything." As soon as she said the word 'cheesecake' her craving for nachos went away and was replaced by a craving for said baked goods. She thought Puck would laugh, or roll his eyes again at the very least.

Instead, he jolted as if someone had shocked him and she couldn't understand the pained expression on his face when he turned to her. "Don't," he said.

"Don't what?"

"Don't eat cheesecake. Please don't."

"But if I did eat cheesecake, then we'd have twins, and I'm sure that, at the very least, my dad would get all excited and add them up to the tally of grandchildren he has across the Multi-Verse. Because even though he's only a little bit of a Family Sim, he puts true Family Sims to shame. Nothing would perk him up more. And then my mother would perk up because my father is happy and besides: now I'm craving cheesecake!"

"You can't be pregnant with twins."

"Why not? Oh my God, Puck, don't you start with this overprotective bullshit, too! I can handle it! I'm not sickly! I'm, like, the most healthy person I know! Why not?"

"Because you're only pregnant with one child."

She raised her eyebrows and spoke slowly. "Exactly. And having cheesecake will give us two."

He licked his lips and grasped at her hand. "But there is only one thread and Fate intends there to be only one thread. If an unplanned thread enters the tapestry, it becomes unstable and the thread would need to be removed."

"What? That makes no sense! My mom ate cheesecake and she managed to have both me and Quinn."

"Exactly," was his only response.

"But..but-" she cut herself off as she suddenly understood what he was saying. She never asked him what his conversation with Fate had been after Quinn had died. He never told her either. Except now...he sort of was. "Oh."

"I'm sorry."

"Yeah," was the only thing she could say in return.

They sat there for a few moments, not saying anything. She could feel his thumb running over her fingers. Puck broke the silence by saying, "Ere-"

"I don't want to know," she interrupted. "Don't upset the pregnant woman and all that."

He smiled slightly. "I was going to say that I could go downstairs and make you some nachos. That is if you still want them."

Nachos sounded like an awesome idea and she was hungry after all. "The baby demands nachos."

"I would never call you a baby," he said with a grin.

She threw her pillow at him.
