Went on a shoot last Thursday at the Cabaret Juste pour Rire as an assistant to
Nancy Desrosier where I got to play with her
200mm f2.8. Talk about glass! The thing is horribly heavy which is exactly how I like it. I was already itching to get myself a new wide angle but should I do more concert shoots (one day?) I will definitely need to get myself one of these babies. I don't know if I have rights on the pictures I took so I won't show them, but they are quite nice, coming from angles I'm not used to take advantage of. For the rest of the show I used my 50mm f1.8 at max opening. Quite risky, but just like my last shoot, something happened in my brain since I had stopped taking pictures. I seem to know exactly what I'm doing, almost never needing to check what I did and the "good shot" ratio is clearly superior.
My only problem is that I can't find my eye for the "mesmerizing picture".
Looks like this camera is really due for some changing. I noted two very annoying hot pixels in my last photos. I already had it serviced a couple of months ago so I don't think she's worth trusting too much. I wont be changing it for a while which means I'll have to work something out in Lightroom to get rid of them for Rax's marriage.
Speaking of which, I had a location visit with the future newlyweds. The reception room's ceiling is covered in pure white drapes! Ideal for great flash bounces, it will be hard to fail.
So yeah, long term spending project? Offical: new camera. 40d most probably, and since I also finally got to fondler a battery pack grip (how silly that I never ever got to try one out until recently) I'll be getting that too. The only reason why I'm not aiming for a used 5d is that I can't bring myself to trust used digital EOS cameras. I brake those things too easily it seems.
