Budapest, abbreviated

I am writing from the single computer at my hostel in Budapest (route) where I get free internet. I have stayed here for three nights. Check out is in an hour; I haven't packed yet.

All is well. It rained here too, from the first night and into the second morning. Similarly to Berlin, I futzed around for the first day and a half trying to find my way around and then finally had a very full day yesterday with a travel companion, this time an English and philosophy major from the UK named Eddy Forge who had just quit his bartending job to travel before starting his MA in literature. He was a good person to hang out in the bath house with.

Yesterday a bunch of us wandered out into the city to sample the nightlife, lead by two first year university students, also from Britain, who had some people to meet across the city. We got lost on the buses on the way there, got there late, were tired, and (most of us) quickly came back.

Again, not really doing justice to much of the specifics. Sorry.

Tonight I take the night train to Bucharest, and then I hope to get the night train again from there to Sofia, to meet with Ivo, who is friend of Zdravko, who is one of my mother's former students and friends. I am somewhat afraid of this leg of my journey; I think it will be the hardest, and Romania, I've gathered, may be the most difficult country to travel in that I will be visiting. But for now, I need to keep myself focused on what's in front of me: packing, checking out, getting food for my trip, etc. Maybe when I'm in Bucharest I'll shell out for a good long time at an internet cafe, since I hear there isn't much to that city.
