I have been obsessed with "Food Blogs" recently. I have spent my free time (on the internet) reading blogs for few months now, from personal blogs moving on to food blogs. Now I'm hungry!!!!!!
I love seeing food pictures (yes, me is pig) and to be honest i actually love cooking. Back in my postgrad student years in UK, i cooked basically all the time coz food was f*cking expensive there and cooking is a relaxing thing to do when u stress about essays and such. I can recall how kitchen was so lively at evening with my flatmates cooking good food, particularly June - a gifted cooker who always tried new recipe and fed us with great stuffs *bless her*. And the dinner in Flat 23 was also wicked, Thais gathered around cooking food and ate what could be the closest to Thai-taste we can make. During the flat life, i mostly cooked Thai food coz i missed the hot and spicy taste so i spent too much free time looking up for recipes on the net. When my flat contracted ended, i moved in with my ex and my course mates. Even though it was a bachelor pad but it wasnt bad at all. Rob, one of my course mate, used to train to be a chef so to make my free time productive while waiting for my graduation, Rob taught me to cook some basic stuff like pasta dishes and roast beef. Then we made a pact of taking turn to cook, however in the end, it was me, the woman of the house, asking my boys what they wanna eat and thinking what i should cook. I did enjoy my cooking so much that i never decline to cook (unless i was really bummed). Sigh, how i miss that!
Back to Thailand, i didnt get a chance to cook much due to the fact that food here is so cheap that i can dine out everynight and still not gone bankrupt. Moreover, some ingredients are so rare that need to be imported which resulted in "High Price", for example, a jar of Old El Paso salsa is roughly 200 baht, that isn't expensive until u compare to my 20-baht bowl of noodles soup. I mean i can get 10 bowls of noodles in that price!?!?! Lastly, not to mention my Thai food cooking skill sucks as Thai food has complicated taste that i could never quite hit it. I made Tom Yum soup in UK and everyone (non-Thais) always praised me but if Thais ate that, blahhhh it sucked. I guess these are just excuse coz if i really wanna cook, nothing can stop me.
So i made a vow, tomorrow I will make "Fish and Chip" from scratch (i'll do the beer batter myself!). I'll inform u the result.
