DIVERSITY DAY 2006:
WE’RE ALL IMMIGRANTS!
SUNDAY OCTOBER 1 1-4 PM
ON WOODSTOCK SQUARE
Plans are being finalized for “Diversity Day 2006: We’re All Immigrants!” The annual festival, now in its elventh year, will be held on Sunday, October 1 from 1 to 4 PM on the Square in Woodstock.
This year, in light of the controversy surrounding immigration and immigrants, Diversity Day will tell the story of the immigrant roots of the entire community. “After all, except for Native Americans, we are all either immigrants ourselves or the descendents of immigrants,” according to the Rev. Dan Larsen of the Congregational Unitarian Church, sponsor of the festival.
The planning committee is putting the finishing touches on the program which will include music and performing art reflective of the immigrant experience and first person accounts. Community leaders will be on hand to add their comments. Long time hosts Gloria Urch and Patrick Murfin are expected to return.
The presentation of the annual Peace and Justice Award will be a highlight of Diversity Day again this year.
Social Service agencies, community organizations, issue advocacy groups, politicians and political parties, and religious groups are invited to erect information tables on the Square.
To reserve a table or to take an advertisement in the program book contact the Congregational Unitarian Church at 815 338-0731 or e-mail
