15 is the new 20

This weekend's run was eventful. Not what I expected but eventful.

Tim and I started off early in the day and met a fellow Macon Tracks runner Tommy Chambers. Tommy is training with the Hal Higdon plan and was out to complete 18 miles of pure running. Tim and I are fans of Jeff Galloways run/walk method and we had the plan to hit 20 miles. SO unfortunately our run with Tommy didn't last long but it was sure nice to know that your fellow runners are out there with you!

The first 10 miles or so with Tim went really smoothly. The miles passed by effortlessly. Fueling went great. The weather was overcast with a nice breeze. We ran on Base around flight line and were just hoping for a big plane to fly overhead. We weren't so lucky. Apparently flight line is pretty dead during the holidays.

I will have to admit that the next 5 miles, weren't so great. The sun came out and humidity skyrocketed. My energy was dropping fast and I started not to feel good. Tim and I decided in the best interest of training and staying injury free for the mouse to cut our run at 15 miles. Boy and I glad that we did. The feeling yucky went away by the end of the day but I definitely know what the issue was and finishing 5 more miles would not have been possible. However, if something did go wrong at least I was in the best hands possible. Tim is a paramedic!

I was so lucky to be graced by Tim during my run. I think without his assistance 10 might have been the new 20. :) I am disappointed by not hitting the big 20 miler. And of course I am just that much more nervous about race day now. But I am trying to put all of that behind me and think of the excellent training runs I have had recently. My 16 and 18 milers went awesome. (My 12 and 14 milers went decently too just a tad on the slower side)I have lost weight the past two months which has helped with my fitness. I have never felt more "fit" in my life time. Not finishing the 20 was a hard pill to swallow but I know it was in the best interest health wise.

Luckily I had Tim and Kenny there cheering me on the entire time. Both of them were a huge help. Tim by doing the miles and giving me great things to think about and talk about during my run and Kenny for being the BEST pit crew ever. Kenny was so gracious to give up his workout for the day and instead he leapfrogged us all day long making sure we had plenty of fuel and water. We even received a few catcalls as he passed. He totally gets the best husband ever award. And to top it all off, he met us at the end of our run with Subway in hand!

I should also mention that Kenny played the role of paparazzi and stalked us all day with his camera. Enjoy this gem! The air force base doesn't make for the best scenery in pictures but it does make for some pretty safe enjoyable running!
