I have officially finished my first Half Marathon!
On Saturday, September 22, I ran the Murfreesboro Half Marathon in Tennessee. My good friend Sarah lives in Murfreesboro and was volunteering at the Race. She convinced me to run the race and I am happy that I did.
Overall the race went well. I Finished in 3:22:30 which is slow but it is 8 minutes faster than the goal I had set for myself.
I am happy to report that I didnt finish last and was never in last place like I had worried about. Heck I didnt even finish last in my age group!!!!! The best I can tell, about 811 runners crossed the finish line. The first one crossed 2 hours and 15 minutes before I did and the last one crossing 30 minutes after I did.
I didnt quite run the race like I had wanted to but you cant plan for everything. I did end up walking the last mile at a very quick pace. The heat was unbelieveable and as you can see from the pic below, several people had to receive medical attention.
I ran the race in my Atalanta Race skirt and it was awesome. The back pockets came in super handy for my gels which helped keep my hands free. I have recently ordered two more Atalanta Skirts for my training. They are the best.
A few notes about the race. Pretty well organized, especially for an inaugural event. The course was well marked with tons of volunteers and police. They said they were going to shut the course down at a 16 minute mile pace but they never did which was great for the back pack. While I was never slower than the 16 minute pace, I am happy that those who were, still got to finish on the actual course and not the sidewalks.
There were tons of water stations. They served water and Accelerade. I have definitely discovered that accelerade is not my favorite and that water poured on your head feels great.
Taking the week easy and then hitting training again next week. Only 4 months until the next race. Hopefully I might be a tiny bit faster.
Next year, Sarah is running with me!
