My cockatiel Gideon broke of the tip of one of his claws leading to bleeding - the quick was visible sticking out a little . I have no idea what precisely did it as he was hanging with me, he flew off, then he came back and he wasn't resting on his right foot. I looked and there's blood spots on his foot and a short nail. Hi everyone. I've written before about our Nacho (pictured in my icon), who is about 9 months old right now. This morning when we checked the cage, we noticed that two of her wing feathers were gone. I have a 2 1/2 year-old cockatiel who is quite sick, and I don't know what to do! We took him to an avian vet on Saturday, and had a follow-up visit today, and she couldn't find anything wrong (normal physical exam and normal crop wash -- we're still waiting on results from the blood tests). I think Lenore has something going on with one of her eyes. I went to take her out and one of her eyes is squinty, and the best thing I have to compare it to is this picture (pretend it's a linnie, not a parrotlet). 99% sure my cockatiel has scaly face mites, based a scaly looking patch on his beak and some slight loss of feathers around his eyes. Obviously he'll be going to the vet ASAP, but in the meantime is there anything I can or should be doing at home to help poor Simon out ( Read more... )

I'm enrolled in a summer class that runs from 8 am - 10 am up at Slippery Rock University, which is about 45 minutes from where I live, so I've been leaving the house around 7 am every day for the past three weeks. I've been constantly in contact with the avian vet and unfortunately I have bad news: it's not an ear infection, the X-rays showed nothing and nor did the lab works for parasites.
