From next year onwards, Dominic will start handling some money - ie. his pocket money. I am going to teach him about money before he goes to school. In line with this, I also want to start teaching him about stewardship, sowing and reaping.
I want him to learn about charity and giving. But I find it pointless to bring him to a charity home to distribution presents (for example) because ultimately, the giving comes from us and not from him. He does not 'feel the pinch', so to speak. Since he really does not have money, and will not have much money, the idea is to get him to give something he has, mainly his possessions (toys, etc). But to give his toys to a charity home entails him giving up most of his toys, which is not practical for the purpose.
So I thought of sponsoring a child around his age from World Vision. Then he can write to that child and learn about children in other parts of the world who are not as blessed as he is. When he receives some things for birthdays or christmas, for instance, he can 'sow' by giving one to the sponsored child. Unfortunately, according to the World Vision, giving of gifts is not allowed. : ( So this idea cannot work.
So right now, I am still thinking how to go about it.
