The Allegory of the Bird

I'm starting to feel like this is the only way I can describe what it feels like to be me.

------------------------
The Allegory of the Bird
------------------------

twice in an eternity,
a bird was created
given life,
given choice,
though only once would it find love.
a million voices let echo in the dark,
could never call the bird by name,
could never see,
never feel,
it's pain.
but one voice that echoed in the dark,
caught the gentle bird's gaze,
she could never capture it,
only woo,
the bird gave up its chase.
how many days must it suffer alone
looking for its mate,
it compromised its dreams,
for one shrill voice in the dark,
and flew into her cage.
she admired it at first,
but soon she was to love,
the unique,
the free spirit,
for now, love was enough,
to keep the bird in placid bondage,
to keep him as her own,
she fed and cleaned,
and cared for it,
but never let him out.
a passing friend came to visit,
and caught sight of the bird,
as silence turned to melody,
the bird began to sing,
amazed was she,
who had kept him warm,
for many a cold night,
that he had never sang before,
something was not right.
she threw the visitor,
out into the dark,
bid her never return,
and looked upon the bird,
in solitude,
reflecting on what she'd learned.
as the hours passed,
the melody faded,
the bird extremely tired,
a plan was hatched,
she would save it,
until he had retired.
when the bird awoke,
it was not to sunlight,
but to solemn black,
its cage replaced with
metal plating,
he was left alone,
to nurse the wound,
in his back.
the days passed,
though the bird could barely notice,
never removed from his prison,
the only light that crept through,
was when she would come to feed it.
and though it ate its fill,
every day,
his hunger grew and grew,
he tried to sing,
but found nothing,
no words,
no beauty,
no truth.
unable to give
what it had been made to give,
and without a single cry,
one night the bird rested its head,
and prepared to die.
though the body was soon found,
it was not removed,
she kept it clean,
and warm,
and fed,
though still within its tomb.
even the memory of beauty,
was eventually gone,
but atleast she had succeeded,
the bird,
forever her own,
to her atleast,
lived on.

Please, I would enjoy hearing what everyone thinks of this. Yes, there is a deeper meaning, it IS an allegory :P I'd love a few guesses!
