rose: fight the throes of boredom

Jul 19, 2011 19:37

[Rose is bored. Bored, and cramped. She isn't used to living around so many other people, and it's gone from interesting to irritating very quickly. So for the past few days, she's been spending as much time as possible up on the roof, enjoying the one good thing she's found about this place - the wishes. The castle gave her a violin, and ( Read more... )

Tha's what hobbies are good for. In-between monsters an' losses an' th' like, i's nice t'have somethin' t'keep one occupied.

[In the background, Rose might hear the unmistakable sounds of a Gamestation2, though Jono isn't in the game room. He wished for one for his private use.]

Temporary fixes to an incessant disease. Five years enjoying oneself is still five years.

[Said a bit more bitterly than her initial statement.]

Maybe, but gettin' upset over it ain' gonna change anything. We've all got things we'd rather be doin' than bein' stuck here, but until either th' castle decides t'let us go, or one o' th' castle's geniuses comes up with a way fer us t'leave willingly, we're better off jus' ridin' it out. No sense in raisin' one's blood pressure over something they can't control, aye?

Spoken like a true optimist.

It isn't my intention to belittle anyone else's discomfort by advertising my own, please understand. We are all in this shitstorm together, et cetera.

Eh, I wouldn' call meself an optimist. Realistic in unrealistic circumstances maybe, but not optimistic.

I know. I'm jus' as bored as anyone, I'm jus' better at dealin' with it than most.

"Bored" is perhaps not the word I would use. "Aimless" is a bit closer, I believe.

Yeah okay, I'll grant ya that. I's gettin' harder t'find ways t'keep meself motivated, outside o' trainin' with me friends. Even that's startin' t'get stale.

Not really, about nine months or so. Feels like a bleedin' eternity compared t'what'm used to.

The first of August will mark three months for myself. I'm still a mere novice in comparison to many.

Honestly? I don' think time spent here matters all that much. Y'can only get used t'so much, with all the oddness this place likes t'throw at us. I'm willin' t'be that even th' veterans 'round here aren't totally comfortable yet.

Of course it would be impossible to completely accustom oneself to the ups and downs of such a temperamental world. But there's such a vast amount of information to be learned about Paradisa, and in my time here I have barely begun to make an inaugural indentation in its surface.

True enough, on both counts. Hell, even jus' talkin' t'people, one's got more'n a lifetime's-worth o' things t'learn.
