rose: fight the throes of boredom

Jul 19, 2011 19:37

[Rose is bored. Bored, and cramped. She isn't used to living around so many other people, and it's gone from interesting to irritating very quickly. So for the past few days, she's been spending as much time as possible up on the roof, enjoying the one good thing she's found about this place - the wishes. Tha's what hobbies are good for. In-between monsters an' losses an' th' like, i's nice t'have somethin' t'keep one occupied.

[In the background, Rose might hear the unmistakable sounds of a Gamestation2, though Jono isn't in the game room. He wished for one for his private use.]

Temporary fixes to an incessant disease. Five years enjoying oneself is still five years.

[Said a bit more bitterly than her initial statement.]

Maybe, but gettin' upset over it ain' gonna change anything. We've all got things we'd rather be doin' than bein' stuck here, but until either th' castle decides t'let us go, or one o' th' castle's geniuses comes up with a way fer us t'leave willingly, we're better off jus' ridin' it out. No sense in raisin' one's blood pressure over something they can't control, aye?

I believe a certain amount of madness is a necessity to take a place such as this in stride.

You flatter me, John. I was just warming up.

[Still not looking directly at him, but he can probably see her smiling just a tad.]

Is this an 'I'm going insane' warning?

I wouldn't know. Sanity is a measure based in social norms and best determined by the observer. It's possible that we're all insane here, but have no one lucid available to inform us.

That is deep, man. Deep.

You really think you're not sane then?

I may be, or I may not be. What do you think - do I seem sane to you?
