The Widow Maker

This branch is hanging over the sidewalk leading to my office. I avoid it easily by walking through the parking lot, but it is still an ominous site quite common with Northwest evergreens. It's become the new water cooler for conversation at the office; walking out at lunch or the end of the day I often see someone just staring at it and chat it up with them. I don't understand why it's so fascinating, but I look at it every time I come out of the office, too. There are a lot of conversations about the best way to bring down the Widow Maker, the most fun way to bring it down, and who we'd like to see walk under it (the usual list of politicians and annoying celebrities).

My supervisor happen to catch our building inspectors last week and informed them of the brach. It's fabled to be removed next week, but we know how these things go. The building owner actually died a few months ago, so there is a list of repairs to go with the Widow Maker, but maybe we will see it's removal next week. I can guarentee the office will be closed for curiosity and we will witness the Widow Maker's demise as a team (especially if my boss George is out of the office).

Great. Time for a bike ride.
