A deck of cards

Once I turned 50,I realized every little thing I eat adheres itself to my thighs, stomach, wherever...It has been a challenge to keep relatively thin while the world insists on super-sizing everything. I've been trying to keep my main proteins no larger than a deck of cards. Once I started doing that, I finally understood that what I thought was normal portion was actually overeating. Oh and the carbs! Try buying one of those 100 calorie snack packs and you'll be surprised as to what constitutes 100 calories!

Today it's back to homework. I spent a wonderful day with missprune's book of poetry yesterday. I can't recommend it enough. The images her poetry conjure are so vivid. Her poems are like welcomed friends; they are warm and familiar. Her poetry enabled me to retrace my own steps to self-discovery; the path through "middle-age" being fraught with twists and turns. Some pages reminded me of homemade vegetable soup and freshly baked bread; others creme brule and and an intense espresso roast; all very comforting in their own way.

Another cup of tea and my day will officially begin...
