Well, had another visit to the midwife today. The baby is fine, heart rate is quite strong. Me, I'm still feeling off. The acupuncturist mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I had a heart arrhythmia, which I had never heard before. I've been feeling better the past couple of days. The hematoma finally found a way to drain and has gone down over half in size and hurts much, much less. Also, Jimmy seems to be done with his growth spurt, and getting a little bit more predictable with regards to napping during the day and having a longer stretch of sleep during the night. Our baby, James Michael Callaway, was born yesterday, 2/1/2010, at 9:33 pm! Had the visit with the OB today. She agrees with the MFM specialist that we should try and induce early. She said if the cervix is "favorable", meaning softened and starting to dilate, she will schedule an induction for sometime during week 39. But she also said there's a 90% chance it won't be ready, since this is a first pregnancy. In that ( Read more... )

Monday we had a growth ultrasound, a meeting with the maternal fetal medicine specialist, and a non-stress test. The non-stress test was absolutely fine. The ultrasound was also mostly okay - they think the baby is about 8lbs now (give or take 15%), but there was some indications of a diabetic growth pattern, where the abdomen was larger, ( Read more... )

Had the OB appointment today. She said the contractions that I had been feeling when I walk around were a great sign, and that it was entirely normal for them to last 2 minutes and stop when I sat down. The difference with real labor is if I sat down and rested, they WOULDN'T go away. Also, the more intense "practice" contractions are a great ( Read more... )

So, we had our first meeting with the Doula today. It went well. She's very responsive to what I say and wanted to know about what we saw her role as. I like her. It's reassuring to know we'll have some experienced support at the birth. We have our next meeting in two weeks, and hopefully the baby will come soon after that ( Read more... )

The baby has the hiccups Big Time!  He's been at it for like 10 minutes now!  I hope he's ok.  My last doctors visit was actually with a midwife, because my doctor was on vacation.  It was neat!  She told me how the baby was lined up - which is to say, perfectly.  His spine is to my belly button, which means no "sunny side up" baby!  She said he ( Read more... )
