On love. And the Von Trapp family's window treatments.

I had an amazing music moment recently - such as I’ve not had for some time. It’s very rare for me to hear a song that stops me in my tracks, mouth open, astounded at how good it is. I was watching Shall We Dance (crap movie, don’t bother) and at the end of it there was a Peter Gabriel song that I’d never heard. Given that he’s my favourite musician and I walked down the aisle to In Your Eyes (best wedding lyrics ever) that’s quite amazing. The reason I liked the song is because the music is great, but the lyrics are so reflective of the fact that if you try to explain love you can’t - it’s something that must be experienced. So anyway, (This isn't the real video though.)

Book of Love

The book of love is long and boring
No one can lift the damn thing
It's full of charts and facts and figures
And instructions for dancing
But I love it when you read to me
And you can read me anything.
The book of love has music in it
In fact that's where music comes from
Some of it is just transcendental
Some of it is just really dumb
But I love it when you sing to me
And you can sing me anything.
The book of love is long and boring
And written very long ago
It's full of flowers and heart-shaped boxes
And things we're all too young to know
But I love it when you give me things
And you should give me wedding rings
Yes I love it when you give me things
And you should give me wedding rings.

In other news, I bought a great olive-green and cream dress from a charity shop and proudly put it on when I got home yesterday, I walked in the kitchen and Mum said “WHAT are you wearing? ‘High on a hill stood a lonely goatherd, yodelay yodelay yodelay hee-hoo…’”

I looked down and realized that she was right. I was wearing the Von Trapp family’s curtains. The resemblance is actually amazing. I wore it to brunch today and Steve called as we were ready to go, “Come on, lonely goatherd.”
Sigh. I still like it though.
