Heavenly Clan Grandmaster Jay, his family, including his daughter Kimi (a lot of potential there), and the Heavenly Clan face challenges and threats. Jay is a teacher too and teaches in Japan on the mountain retreat he, as Grandmaster, owns--and everywhere he goes.
The story examines his thoughts about life and those who need his help, though too often they don't realize it. (Not everyone understands him--very few actually.) The references to Shogun and the historical background are also interesting.
This book covers a lot of territory from New York to Japan (often back and forth) and elsewhere; and finally the family travels throughout Europe before returning home to New York--and has a surprising opportunity in Rome--and Jay rescues a kitten. Not all his challenges are overwhelming....
