Jeanie and Simon Lowry
Jeanie moved to California just after high school to "follow her dream". She settled in Pasadena and enrolled in a culinary school, where she mastered icing roses (thanks to her grandmother's constant teaching as a child).
Simon grew up in northern California and enlisted in the Air Force as soon as he was of age. After his basic training, he was stationed at the Western Development Division in El Segundo, CA. He was dragged to a party by some fellow airmen, where he met Jeanie.
From Day One, Simon drove her crazy - though they both know he does it simply to get her riled up - and they were married almost a year later. They have at least one son and, after he graduated from high school and headed for college in Oregon, it was suggested that Jeanie use her talent for baking and decorating cakes and open her own shop.
After some prodding from Simon to take a chance, she decided to give it a shot and, after two years of working from her kitchen, Simon found an open space on Mission Street and they moved in upstairs, while setting up what is, now, a pretty successful little bakery... which moonlights as a sandwich shop assuming it's possible to moonlight in the afternoon. They also own the apartment building across the street, simply because it was up for sale and they had some extra cash - she likes to tell people Simon got the place "in a shrewd business move." *cookies for anyone who gets that one*
Simon's work at WDD put him right in the middle of the beginnings of spaceflight and, to this day, he still loves all things science-fiction. His favorite past-time is to sit back and watch marathons of Stargate. He also has a monster grill and loves to cook anything he can think of putting on the grill.
Jeanie looks like she might get knocked over by a stiff wind, but she can take on most kids a third her age; she's shorter than most of the men in her life - which has expanded to include a group of boys known simply as "The Football Team" - but holds the power (which comes with a pretty potent stare); her hair is naturally grey and she thinks it makes her look a bit more 'learned'. *snickers and cookies for anyone who gets that one, too*
Jeanie and Simon became semi-adoptive parents to DG after she rented one of the apartments across the street. When Wyatt Cain arrived, he learned that DG had told Simon who she really was. Upon comfirmation from Cain, Simon realized DG was actually telling him the truth and he bonded with Cain rather quickly. Both he and Jeanie are certain that there's more to Cain and DG than they let on...
Also, Jeanie makes the best damn pecan rolls on two sides.
Jeanie and Simon don't pop up until the end of California Queen, but they're pretty much a regular occurence after that. :)
