I'm trying not to gloat, I really am. But YES!!! YESYESYESYESYES!!!!
Sam/Ruby is absolute canon now, no denying it any more, and Sam's moral compass hasn't broken. He was broken, yes, mentally and emotionally, crazed and suicidal, but he still knew right from wrong, and what he did, with Ruby, not perfect, no, but understandable. Also, incredibly, fucking HOT!
I thought it was interesting that they chose to make Ruby's current body a Jane Doe. I'm curious where the Christie (Kristie?) came from, in Lazarus Rising - I wonder if that whole exchange, Sam picking one name, Ruby correcting him, was Ruby's sense of humour. After all, he'd have no need to call her anything other than Ruby, no reason to have come up with a fake name for her in advance. So yes, I think that was probably Ruby just having a bit of fun, making Sam look slutty in front of Dean. Is it wrong that I really, really, love Ruby?!
I love that she knows Sam (and Dean) well enough to be able to tell Sam what Dean would have told him.
And oh, I did so love Dean's TMI reaction to all Sam's detail in the story. And Sam's utterly unapologetic response - I bet there was a little getting his own back there.
The only tiny disappointment for me with this episode is a writing one - now the show's given us Sam and Ruby's first time, anything I write will be AU. But damn, I still need to write them, and I wouldn't give up that scene even for the joy of writing their first time.
I suppose I should tear myself away from the hotness of Sam/Ruby for a moment - it's just hard to remember there was anything else in the episode, even though the rest was fantastic too.
I enjoyed seeing Sam and Dean hustling together. Though I wouldn't have trusted their spiel for a second! *g*
I like the variation on the usual sort of story - the damsel in distress has the powers. And now she has both demons and angels after her, and only the Winchesters and Ruby on her side - I'd still bet on her, not those after her! I hope we'll learn next week why her, what's special about her, because I'm really curious about that, and why her ability only started to function when Dean was brought back.
Dean's face at "The Dean Winchester." And Sam's face too - you could just see him thinking Dean would be bringing that up again - "I'm Dean Winchester. The Dean Winchester. I'm sure you've heard of me." ♥
I'm so, so glad Sam's told Dean what happened to him over the summer - that's one lot of secrets out of the way. And glad that we got to see it, of course. This is the episode I've been waiting for since Lazarus Rising, and it was OMG worth every minute of waiting. Sam's drunken summoning of the crossroad's demon, even though he had nothing to offer but his own life in exchange. (As an aside, yay, male crossroad's demon host). For anyone who thinks Sam's been too distant this season, doesn't care about Dean, the way Sam fell to pieces when he realised he couldn't do anything for him surely proves that's not true.
Dean's awkward almost-apology/almost-thank you to Ruby, and the way she just stood there with a raised eyebrow was priceless.
I don't know where this story is going, but I sure as hell LOVE where it's been. I just need next Friday NOW!!!
ETA: I'm guessing there's going to be as much hate as love for this episode, so I'm nervous about clicking on episode reviews, because sorry, I just don't want to read the negative reviews - link me to your squee, please.
