Rating: PG
Category: AU (School boys!), Fluff and Humor
Pairing: KiHae
Summary: Kibum just needs two things in the morning: Kibum time and a medium black coffee with a bit of cream and no sugar. Donghae, clearly, doesn’t understand this.
A/N: Eh, my first KiHae fic, KyuMin just did not want to be written today. Plus, KiHae + coffee = two of my favourite things in the world XD Dedicated to mitsu_nobecause of her amazing fanart that prompted me to write some KiHae=)

“A medium coffee, black with cream and no sugar and for here,” Kibum said to the young barista behind the counter.

The young girl gave Kibum a nervous look. “Um, are you sure? That’s going to be very bitter and extremely strong especially -”

Kibum held up his hand to silence the chatty teenager. “It’s fine really; it’s what I usually get.” Just so that the bubbly barista wouldn’t say any more words, he flashed his devastating smile at her that would surely put any girl into silence and obedience. Surely, enough, it did.

The girl blushed, and proceeded to offer broken sentences and hurried to get his order.

As soon as the girl had turned her back to him, Kibum returned his face to his usual grim line. He needed his coffee in the morning, and he liked it strong and bitter. The girl must have been new because Kibum frequented this particular coffee shop every day, ever since he had started high school. Coffee rejuvenated Kibum for the school day and allowed him to tolerate the idiots he called classmates. This was his last year in high school and he couldn’t let a bunch of twits at his school to ruin his chance to study abroad next year. If that meant waking up early (i.e. 5 AM) to get a nice cup of steamy coffee which would prevent him from screaming at his classmates, then so be it.

“Aigoo~” came a loud and tired voice.

Kibum turned around to see Lee Donghae at the entrance of his favourite coffee shop. He groaned. Why in the world would he be here at 5:45 AM? People like Donghae didn’t come to coffee shops at 5:45 AM. People like Donghae were suppose to be at home sleeping and waking up 23 minutes later after they pressed the snooze button and then running frantically to get to school. People like Donghae were not supposed to interrupt people like Kibum’s time of solidarity and me-time.

Kibum tried to turn his head to avoid catching Donghae’s attention. Yes, he was his friend, but Donghae could be loud and spacey, at times. Loud and spacey was fun … after noon, but not at 5:45AM and during Kibum time. Apparently, he wasn’t smooth enough because Donghae was waving frantically at him and charging in his direction.

Kibum tried to look for a means of escape, a large person to hide behind, or anything, but the coffee house was completely deserted because no one was sane enough to come to a coffee shop at 5:46AM.

“Hello, Donghae,” Kibum said, reluctantly. “Why are you here at 5:46 in the morning?”

Donghae yawned and stretched his arms. His school uniform was in complete disarray. It looked like he had slept in it and woken up and headed straight to the coffee shop. His buttons weren’t buttoned correctly, his tie was loosely knotted and his jacket was inside out. His hair was a complete mess; sticking up in every direction possible.

Donghae rubbed at his eyes and threw an arm around Kibum and looked as if he was going to tell him a great tale. “Well, you see, I’m not really sure, either. I haven’t slept in the past 48 hours, unless blacking out is included as sleeping, but we’ll get to that later. I do remember going to the karaoke bar with Eunhyuk, Kyuhyun and Sungmin last night, but you know how the latter two are when they go out. I remember singing a lot of BoA songs and Eunhyuk thinking that the lamp shade was Hyori and he started to kiss it. But, at that point I think I had drank too much soju because Kyuhyun and Sungmin’s skin colour had turned a dark green and Eunhyuk looked like he had two heads, but now thinking back, that possibly could’ve just been the lampshade, and that’s when I think I blacked out. Then I woke up outside of the karaoke bar just 15 minutes ago. I know, eh? What great friends they are, leaving me to defend my helpless self in the dangerous streets of Seoul. Now I have a massive headache and I just happened to have passed this coffee shop and thought maybe caffeine will be the cure to all my problems.” Donghae smiled at him when he finished his epic story, not even wanting to catch his breath after that long monologue.

Kibum gaped at him. For someone who hadn’t slept in 48 hours, he could string together a lot of coherent words. “Oh,” was all Kibum could really say.

“Mmm hmm,” Donghae murmured; as if he hadn’t told him the most ludicrous story in a single breathe. He turned towards the counter to read the types of coffee available in the shop. “I wonder how many shots of espresso I can put in one drink, and how much sugar they’re willing to add.” Donghae turned back to look at Kibum. “Say, why are you here so early? And, are you staying here or taking it to go? Because I’ll keep you company.”

Kibum was about to lie and say he was taking it to go because no one disrupted him during his Kibum time, but that was the time the barista chose to finally come back with his coffee in a nice ‘for here’ coffee cup.

“Okay, a medium black coffee with a bit of cream and no sugar, and for here,” she said in a very accomplished voice, she pushed the cup towards Kibum and smiled at him shyly. “I also gave you a latte art message.”

Kibum looked from the young girl to the coffee. The girl had decorated his coffee with a massive latte decorated heart. He made a face at the cup, and in his forced nice (which was really hard because his coffee was completely ugly and now his Kibum time was about to be ruined, too), “Urm, thanks, but it’s to - “

Donghae slapped Kibum on the back. “Eh, so you CAN have coffee with me! Good!”

Before Kibum could get the barista’s attention again or correct Donghae, the girl was already gazing at Donghae with wide and admiring eyes and Donghae was saying his order. “Um, I think I’ll have a large-no wait! An extra large? Do you have that? No? Okay, just a large coffee with, umm, a few extra shots of espresso. How many shots? Well, how about, five? Oh, actually-what? Five shots are too much? Okay, then four. And, whipped cream too. Could you add a lot of sugar for me, please? Can the sugar be free, please?” Donghae winked at the girl and gave her a grin.

The girl grew even redder, nodded and hurried to the back to make the coffee.

Donghae’s smiled remained on his face when he turned to Kibum’s stony face. “What?” Donghae asked genuinely confused.

“Do you want to die? Do you know how much caffeine that is? AND sugar?” Kibum exclaimed.

Donghae shrugged. “I’ve had worse, but why are YOU scolding me? Look at what YOU’RE drinking!” Donghae pointed at Kibum’s black coffee with a swirl of a heart on top. “Who drinks coffee without sugar, honestly?” he asked in a disgusted voice.

Kibum looked at Donghae incredulously. “Yah! Me? You’re just asking for a death wish with all of what you decided to put in your drink.”

Donghae shook his head and reached over the counter for the sugar casually and proceeded to pour what could’ve been a full cup of sugar into Kibum’s coffee.

“YAH! What are you doing?!” Kibum shrieked, as he tried to get the sugar out of Donghae’s hand, but he turned his body away from Kibum’s urgent grabs; shielding the coffee and the sugar.

“Ah, it was just a spoonful of sugar,” Donghae said calmly, as he set aside the sugar and handed Kibum his coffee.

Kibum glared at Donghae as if he had committed a horrendous sin. Which he pretty much well had because not only had he interrupted Kibum time, he DESTROYED his coffee; his one lifeline to the world in the morning.

“It’ll taste better,” Donghae assured him, as he put a hand through his hair trying to tame the mess it was in. “You should always start and end your day by eating, saying and doing something sweet, it’s what my mother told me.”

Kibum continued his dangerous glare, as he gripped the handle of his cup tightly.

“Um, you’re holding that cup quite tight, your knuckles are getting white,” Donghae said in a worried voice. “Are you okay?”

Kibum narrowed his eyes which seemed impossible to do since he was already glaring at Donghae, but now his eyes seemed to be two slit lines. If looks could kill, Donghae would be dead on the floor.

“Uh,” Donghae scratched his head. “You look very nice, today?”

Kibum glared. “Is that your sweet saying for the day?”

Donghae grinned and was about to say something, most likely, spacey or lewd, when the barista came out with his coffee.

Kibum paid for this coffee and went to find a single seated table, hoping that Donghae would get the hint, but apparently he didn’t. Thirteen seconds later, Donghae was pulling a chair over from another table and tried to squeeze into the single table.

“Yah, why would you pick a single table?” Donghae asked annoyed, as he wiped the coffee that had spilt from his cup.

“Hmm, I wonder why,” Kibum said, the sarcasm evident in his voice, but spacey Donghae paid no heed to it.

Donghae took a deep gulp of his highly caffeinated and sugared coffee. Kibum looked on, but it was a bit painful, just because he was thinking of all the drugs in that cup of coffee.

“Aish!” Donghae exclaimed, as he wiped his mouth with a napkin, but ignoring the whipped cream that was on his nose

“See, I told you it was too sweet,” Kibum said triumphantly, albeit annoyed that he didn’t have any coffee to drink. “And, you have whipped cream on your nose.”

Donghae shook his head. “No, it’s not sweet, enough,” he said looking at the murky liquid and still ignoring the whipped cream. “She didn’t give me enough free sugar, so cheap.” He looked up from his drink and eyed Kibum, then his drink, and smiled. “Let me have your drink!”

Kibum crossed his arms and gave Donghae a pointed look. “Why? It’s my drink. I’m going to drink it, eventually.”

Donghae rolled his eyes at his friend. “No, you’re not.”

“You don’t know that,” Kibum argued. Okay, maybe he wasn’t going to drink it, but he didn’t want to give Donghae the satisfaction of taking away Kibum time AND coffee, even though he wasn’t going to drink it, but it was nice and warm to hold which was as close as he was going to get to actually drinking it.

“Puh-leeeeease?” Donghae begged, and he shifted his chair even closer to Kibum’s, which he didn’t think was possible because they were already crammed into the single, small table.

“Yah! This table’s already cramped, stop moving so close!” Kibum warned Donghae, as he shifted a bit further from him.

“I’ll stop moving if you give me just a sip?” Donghae said in his most innocent voice and with wide innocent and pleading eyes.

Kibum rolled his eyes. It was a hard decision. Either he gave him a sip of his coffee and he would stop moving so close to him, or he wouldn’t give him a sip and he would continue to move closer. He didn’t know which one was worse, at the moment.

Kibum shook himself out of his thoughts and sighed. “Fine, here. Just a sip!”

Donghae happily took the warm coffee from Kibum’s hands, and took a gracious sip of it. The look on his face was of pure euphoria. It was as if he had died and gone to heaven; or a man that had been walking to through the desert and had finally received water to quench his thirst; and all the other metaphors one could think of for the look of pure pleasure on Donghae’s face.

Donghae leaned back on his seat and gave a contented sigh. “Now, that is good coffee.”

“Ugh, that’s disgusting, Donghae,” Kibum said. “And you still have whipped cream on your nose.”

“Noooo, THIS is the only way to drink coffee,” he replied, and handed the drink to Kibum. “Try it!”

Kibum pushed the coffee back towards Kibum. “Um, I think I’ll pass, you can have it.”

“Try it! It’s good!” Donghae insisted, as he pushed his chair closer towards Kibum’s. “You haven’t done anything sweet-related today!”

“It’s okay! I can go a day without coffee!” Okay, total lie, but he didn’t want to die from a sugar overdose.

“Yah! I’m serious here, take it!” Donghae was getting too close with his chair moving, and he was generally the type who always got what he wanted, but Kibum wasn’t going to back down.

“I’m not drinking it,” Kibum said in a voice that pretty much said it was final.

“Don’t make me do something drastic,” Donghae said in a warning tone.

Kibum crossed his arm and said in a stubborn voice, “Try me.”

Donghae looked around the café, but it was still ridiculously empty and quiet, and then back to the coffee in his hand and then to Kibum. Before he knew it, Kibum was being pulled in for a kiss that was urgent and needy. Donghae was persistent and really wanted Kibum to get a taste of that coffee.

Kibum really was at shock. He didn’t know whether to push Donghae off of him (really, they were in a public place and the barista must be squealing like a school girl to see two pretty boys kissing each other) or actually give in, because Donghae was unrelenting. It was when he felt Donghae slip his tongue into his that Kibum realized that he should really stop thinking and analyzing things, all together; and just give in.

The taste of his drug filled coffee still lingered in Donghae’s mouth, and Kibum had to admit it, it was quite nice. He could feel something cold and melting on his cheek and realized that it was the whipped cream that Donghae had not wiped from his nose. But, really, at that moment, Donghae could have wiped anything on his face and he really wouldn’t care, as long as he kept kissing him like he was doing now. It was at that moment when Donghae had decided to pull away so that the both of them could learn how to breathe properly again.

“Well, that was …. um … unexpected,” Kibum said after a moment of awkward silence and wiping his face of whipped cream. He started to play with the napkin on the table and wiping imaginary spills on the table, just so that he wouldn’t have to look up to see Donghae’s face.

“The coffee was good, though, wasn’t it?” Donghae asked, the humour in his voice evident.

Kibum looked up to see Donghae smirking at him with the whipped cream still on his nose. If anything the scene should’ve made him less embarrassed but, it didn’t. Instead, he looked down and tried to hide the blush on his face. What was wrong with him? He was supposed to be Kim Kibum, completely detached and unemotional with situations like these. He was supposed to be the one in charge here and in check with his feelings. He wasn’t supposed to be acting like a 14 year old girl who just had her first kiss.

“I guess so,” Kibum murmured. God, what the hell? Not only was he becoming a 14 year old girl, but he was starting to like extremely high contents of sugar and drugs in his coffee. What was wrong with the world?

“At least we’ve both done and ate something sweet for the day,” Donghae said nonchalantly, “You just have to say something sweet.” Donghae said this as if he was expecting Kibum to say something nice to them after they had shared that coffee inducing kiss.

Well, if that’s what Donghae thought then he was wrong. And for the first time in the day, Kibum smiled (like he truly meant it) and stood up. Donghae raised an eyebrow at him questioningly. Kibum then walked over to the counter to see the barista standing there with an excited gleam in her eyes, clearly, she had witnessed the whole scene. Kibum looked at her nicely and said, “The coffee was very good, keep up the great work.”

The girl gave a nervous giggle and smiled graciously at him before running towards the back and squealing with joy.

Kibum turned around and was happy to see Donghae’s expression of shock. Yes, back in control!Kibum was still in the game. He walked towards Donghae and said, “You know, I started off my day with doing, drinking and saying something sweet, but what about tonight? How am I going to end the day with something sweet? “

Donghae’s expression of disbelief turned into a sly and playful grin.

“I’ll be here tonight at 9, and I expect a black coffee with a bit of cream and just a spoonful of sugar when I get here, too,” Kibum said. “Oh, you can have my full cup of coffee.”

Kibum walked towards the door, and turned back to face Donghae, “You still have whipped cream on your nose.” Not even waiting for Donghae’s reply, he left the café.

Yes, in control!Kibum was back in action. But maybe unemotional and detached!Kibum could come back later.
