Here's one of my first posts about getting hit by the sobig worm back in the summer of 2003--in the middle of thesis-writing. Given that, it's not surprising that I was ready to go to Linux when I did.

Public Service Announcement:

/. reports that a particularly nasty worm has begun propagating itself through AIM. [Direct Link to source story from C|net]. The payload is a rootkit that bypasses security software and takes control of Windows PCs.

Users of Gaimshould be immune, as will any Linux, BSD, or OSX users.

For those of you running Windows. Do not open any emails purporting to tell you about the suicide of Michael Jackson--this is a trojan--once run, it will install itself onto your computer, insert itself into the system registry, and allow other people to access your computer remotely.

Those of you running *nix can safely ignore this warning.
